Barcelona vs Sevilla Analysis
Five straight wins now for Barcelona, including a shocking 4-0 thumping over league-leaders Real Madrid two weeks ago, means the Catalans are one of the hottest properties in Europe right now and will be eager to keep that run going against second-place Sevilla on Sunday.
Sevilla, for their part, own the league’s longest undefeated streak, going 15-straight games now without a loss in La Liga, however with over half of those coming as draws it’s likely left too much of a gap to peg back now against Real Madrid in the hunt for the La Liga title this season.
Sevilla Looks To Defense For Success
While the Rojiblancos have struggled to turn draws into victories over recent games, they have nevertheless been extremely hard to beat this season, with no team losing less games all year than Sevilla has.
That success for Sevilla has largely come from a rock solid defense which has given up just 19 goals all season, a full ten goals less than current adversaries Barcelona have allowed this year.
Growing Confidence In Barcelona Camp
It’s fair to say Xavi’s men are playing with a real bit of swagger right now after dispatching their arch-rivals Real Madrid 4-0 in a rout at the Bernabeu two weeks ago.
But it’s been far from a one game sample size for the men from Catalonia. Barcelona has averaged an impressive 3.6 goals per game over their last five starts and have kept three clean sheets across those five games also.

While Barcelona are no doubt in some red-hot form right now, getting a team as good as Sevilla at +1.25 here presents some excellent value this weekend.
But it’s not just the side that presents value in this one but also the total as well. As good as Sevilla has been this season on defense, Barcelona has been even better on expected goals against this season, ranking first in the league overall, and since January 1st both teams rank No. 1 and No. 2 respectively on expected goals against by a fairly wide margin.
Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui has been round the boards more than once over his career and engineered Sevilla’s impressive 1-1 result back in December against Barcelona after the Catalan’s poured it on late.
We believe he can do that once again here on Sunday as Sevilla likely look to set up tight and try to contain Barcelona in this one.
