Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Betting Analysis
We’ve got a big clash over in the German Bundesliga on Friday as champions Bayern Munich host relegation-battling Bayer Leverkusen in a game both teams need to win.
After a fantastic season last year in which ‘Die Werkself’ finished third in the league and had the Bundesliga’s second-best road record, it’s been all downhill for Leverkusen this season as they’ve secured just one win all year, with only goal difference separating themselves from the relegation spots at the foot of the table.
Bayern Munich, for their part, haven’t enjoyed the same level of success that they’ve been used to over recent seasons either, winning just three of their opening seven games so far this year and are winless in four-straight league games now as well, including a shocking 1-0 loss to relegation favorites Augsburg two weeks ago.
Bayern Munich has not lost to Bayer Leverkusen since 2019, but have only covered this -1.5 handicap line in four of their last eight meetings overall.
Champions League Spreading Leverkusen Thin
In a trend familiar with a lot of Europe’s fringe contenders (Sevilla for example over in Spain), while qualifying for Champions League football is often great for a club’s coffers, it often puts a ton of strain on those squads not deep enough to effectively manage both competitions. This is something Bayer Leverkusen is all too familiar with this season.
With a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid in Champions League Match Day 2 however, that focus on European football has started to pay off for Leverkusen, even at the expense of their domestic form.
Bayern Munich’s Winless Run
Bayern Munich has not endured a four-game winless run in the Bundesliga since 2002. With more Champions League fixtures on the horizon, the defending champs need to kick things into high gear as soon as possible.
Possibly even more egregious than their two-decade winless run was snapping their 87-game Bundesliga scoring streak, which was unceremoniously broken against minnows Augsburg two weeks ago. That result has put manager Julian Nagelsmann firmly under the spotlight ahead of this class
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction
Bayer Leverkusen sits second in Champions League Group B right now and they might well gamble a bit here on focusing the majority of their attention on beating winless FC Porto on Tuesday. If they can secure a victory in that match, it would give them a firm foothold in the qualification stakes for the knockout stage early next year.
Leverkusen will have the winter break in which to claw back a respectable league position, so it’s likely Gerardo Seoane will focus his full efforts on the one competition where his men can make the most headway in, and ensure they’re fully healthy for their trip to Portugal on Tuesday.
Bayern Munich, meanwhile, already holds a commanding lead in their Champions League group and with minnows Viktoria Plzen on deck for Tuesday in Munich no less, Julian Nagelsmann will no-doubt expect an immediate response in this game and we can see Bayern winning and covering here on Friday as a result.
Take Bayern Munich -1.5 as your play for Friday against Bayer Leverkusen over in the German Bundesliga.
