Benfica vs Club Brugge Betting Analysis

Benfica bring a 2-0 lead here to Leg 2 and although they don’t have to win this match, it’s hard to envision anything else but another straightforward win.

I expect the Portuguese side to jump out to an early lead in this match and try to put this affair on ice early and not give Brugge any hope of a comeback.

Current form is very troubling for Brugge. Since the WC break, they have just two wins in 13 matches in all competitions, although I suppose they aren’t losing too many as they have seven draws, but it is very indicative of a club that doesn’t belong in the Champions League knockout rounds.

A further indicator that they are out of their league here is that they had the worst xG differential in the group stage of any qualifier with a total of a -3.8 xG differential, one of only two teams in the negative.

Club Brugge Not Bringing It

In the Jupiler League, they are having a very mediocre year by their standards as they sit 4th in the table and a whopping 21 points behind Genk atop the table.

Their +12 goal differential is also telling compared to Genk at +40. Again, not what you would expect from a Champions League quality side. I’m not a believer in Brugge in general, and especially not on the road here with their ugly form.

If we are comparing Benfica to the Jupiler League’s best team, it’s worth noting Brugge lost 1-3 at Genk just last month. But Genk doesn’t compare to Benfica. They didn’t even qualify for any European football competition this season.

Benfica Bowling Through Liga Portugal

Speaking of Benfica who are Champions League regulars, they have won ten of their last 13 matches as only Braga has been able to beat them (twice) whilst also settling for one draw vs Sporting.

They are dominating Liga Portugal with a 20-2-1 record and ridiculous +45 goal differential as they have conceded just 13 goals in 23 matches.

I would asterisk their league record when comparing to any of the Big 5 as it is clearly weaker, but when comparing to the Jupiler League, it actually ranks tougher.

Benfica vs Club Brugge Expert Prediction

In three matches since their Leg 1 meeting, Benfica has won all three and conceded a total of just one goal while Brugge has one win, one draw and one loss conceding a total of five goals, all of those coming in two away matches.

Bottom line, there is no argument that Benfica is the more talented team, they only possible hiccup is that Benfica doesn’t have to win this match to move on, but I think they do win by multiple goals and keep their momentum going.

Prediction: Benfica -1.5 +110
