Burnley vs Hull Analysis

After a solid opening day victory over Huddersfield on Match Day 1, it’s been tough sledding for Burnley who have amassed just one point from a possible six over their two most recent games against Luton and Watford.

Hull, meanwhile, has opened up the new season with two wins and a draw, while heading into the midweek games sitting in second place in the English Championship table.

Both teams have split each of their last four head-to-head meetings with each team winning a game and two draws. However, Burnley has won two of the last three against Hull at Turf Moor.

Hull Over-Performing Early

While Hull will no doubt be happy with their early seven-point return from just three games to open up the season, there have been some early warning signs on the Tigers.

They were extremely clinical against Norwich over the weekend, netting two goals from just 30% possession, but were absolutely manhandled in their game prior against Preston, with Preston owning a colossal 2.11-0.21 xG advantage over them despite not getting the win.

With Hull giving up the league’s highest defensive xGA this season as well, the Tigers have definitely rode their luck a little to start 2022-23.

Burnley Faces Tough Opening Schedule

Burnley, on the other hand, has faced a far tougher schedule to open up their 2022-23 campaign, going up against last season’s playoff finalists Huddersfield in their opening game and then followed that up with facing former playoff contenders Luton along with last season’s Premier League outfit Watford in quick succession as well.

Tuesday’s game against Hull will actually represent a step-down for Vincent Kompany’s men from the teams they’ve already faced, and while Hull is enjoying some good form right now, this is no doubt a game Burnley have circled as a very winnable encounter on Tuesday.

Burnley vs Hull Prediction

Looking at the table at a glance and seeing the team in 12th position being priced up as -170 favorites against the team in second might initially appear like value on taking the road team in this spot, but the books are no doubt aware of the smoke and mirrors type nature of this game and have priced this one up accordingly.

Burnley is the much stronger team between these two and has faced a far tougher three-game schedule to start the season as well.

On top of that, Burnley has been unlucky in spots, dominating Watford on overall xG over the weekend by 0.86-0.25 advantage, yet still ended up losing the game outright.

We believe that gets corrected here on Tuesday as Burnley gets back to winning ways against an over-valued Hull side in this one.

Take Burnley -0.75 (-138) on the Asian handicap as the play for Tuesday’s English Championship slate.
