Celtic vs Real Madrid Analysis
Celtic Park will be out in full voice on Tuesday as they host the current European champions Real Madrid in what will be their first Champions League group game since the 2017-18 season.
In terms of domestic action, Celtic have been absolutely flawless to start the season in Scotland, banking six wins from six, scoring a colossal average of 4.17 goals per game and come off handing arch-rivals Rangers a 4-0 hammering over the weekend in Celtic Park. Even though it’s very early in the season, Celtic has firmly established itself as the domestic title favorites.
Real Madrid has been equally as good over in La Liga however, accumulating four-straight wins to open up the new season and they already enjoy a slim two-point cushion over main title rivals, Barcelona, to start the year.
Real Madrid and Celtic have met three times in European competition historically, with Madrid winning two of the three meetings overall, but Celtic taking the only meeting between the two sides in Glasgow.
Real Madrid Hoping Big-Game Experience Is Enough
Last year’s historic run to European glory for Real Madrid was an unlikely one, with ‘Los Blancos’ ranking as outsiders in every single round of last year’s Champions League knockout stage, yet coming through in the end to win the Champions League for a record 14th time.
That presents a very tall order for Madrid to emulate again this season, and their record in group stages is somewhat mixed over recent years, famously losing to Moldovan minnows FC Sheriff last season, along with losing twice against Shakhtar Donetsk in the year prior.
Celtic Firing On All Cylinders Right Now
In what many observers felt would be Celtic’s biggest test to date this season against Rangers last weekend, Celtic effectively made it look easy, blitzing three goals past Rangers inside the opening 40 minutes to take a firm command of not only of the game, but also the title race as well.
While Real Madrid pose another question entirely this midweek, Celtic still shouldn’t be underestimated as Rangers reached the Europa League final just a few short months ago, and Celtic could pose serious problems for this Madrid backline here on Tuesday also.
Celtic vs Real Madrid Prediction
Overall, we have to take Celtic in this spot catching a full goal on the handicap line against Real Madrid at home here on Tuesday.
Numerous star players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Lionel Messi, who famously lost here to Celtic when he was with Barcelona back in 2012-13, have called it one of the most intimidating atmospheres in Europe, and with Celtic playing on such a high right now as well, expect the Green Brigade to be out in full force for this one.
Take Celtic +1 on the goal spread on Tuesday to cover at home against Real Madrid in a game we believe the Hoops can generate a positive result in.
