Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Analysis
Two of the top teams in the Bundesliga this season square off on Saturday in a real heavyweight clash over in Germany between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.
RB Leipzig currently sits two places below Dortmund in the table but Leipzig has been the best team in 2022 so far, losing just once over their last 14 games, that coming via a thrilling 3-2 shootout loss on the road against league leaders Bayern Munich.
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, continues to occupy second position in the table, as they have done for pretty much the entirety of the season, but with only seven games remaining versus a six-point gap to make up to Bayern Munich at the top of the table, it could well be another year before the ‘Black and Yellows’ get a chance at lifting the Bundesliga title.
Tedesco’s Sensational Run at Leipzig
Since taking over from the ousted Jesse Marsch back at the start of December, Italian head coach Domencio Tedesco has been on one of the most sensational runs out of any coach in Europe over 2022.
Leipzig, who was languishing in the bottom half of the table down in 11th spot when Tedesco took over, now find themselves firmly in the hunt for Champions League football for next season, along with being one of the favorites for this year’s Europa League trophy also.
Dortmund’s Strong Home Form
No team has been more successful at home this season than Borussia Dortmund have, generating a mightily impressive 2.54 points per game inside Signal Iduna Park this year.
That betters Bayern Munich’s home record of 2.42 points per game by a decent margin and it hasn’t just been at home where Dortmund have been strong either.
Against Leipzig specifically, Dortmund haven’t lost at home to their rivals since 2017. They’ve also scored in ten straight games against Leipzig, with no other team in Bundesliga history scoring more goals against a visiting Leipzig side than Dortmund have.
Dortmund vs RB Leipzig Prediction
With the form RB Leipzig is in so far in 2022, it would take a brave person to walk to the window and bet against them getting a result from this game, but by the same token, standing in front of Dortmund’s imperious home form this year looks equally as daunting.
Because of that we’re going to swerve the side here completely and focus on the total instead, taking the Over 3 goals between these two on Saturday.
Normally, when two top teams play each other in league action the line is inflated to the Over, but we believe it hasn’t been inflated enough in this one.
Leipzig have averaged 2.07 xG per game since December 1st over in the Bundesliga and have conceded 15 goals on the road also off the back of an incredibly high 21.23 xGA.
With both teams equal 3rd in the standings in total shots on target this season and Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig ranking 1st and 2nd respectively on home/road counter-attacking goals this season, we’re going to take the Over 3 goals on Saturday to get to the window in the highly anticipated matchup between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund this weekend.
