Old masters Spain and Italy face off against each other on Thursday evening with the defending champions Italy looking to slow down a Spanish side that handed Croatia their joint-heaviest defeat in tournament history last weekend with a 3-0 win in Berlin.
Offensively, Spain has looked in peak form recently, not only putting three goals past a very experienced Croatian side last time out, but also a further 13 goals in their three previous international friendlies against Brazil, Andorra, and Northern Ireland respectively heading into this competition.
That well-versed Spanish attack, headed by captain Alvaro Morata who became his countryโs second-highest-ever goal scorer in major tournaments with his opening goal against Croatia on Saturday, will fancy their chances here on Thursday against an inexperienced Italian backline, with the Italians having the fourth youngest squad at this yearโs tournament.
We wouldnโt therefore put it past the Spanish to get on the scoresheet in this one, perhaps multiple times, something theyโve managed in three of their last four meetings against the Italians, with the remaining question being can Italy breach this Spanish backline also?
We believe they can, and if Chiesa and Barella can click into gear just like they did against Albania in Matchday 1, with much better performances from Scamacca and Frattesi also, then the Italians could cause the Spanish some problems in this one, with the Over 2.25 goals looking value as a result.

The pick of Fridayโs matchups sees the Netherlands take on France in a game that pits the two big boys of Group D against one another.
Both teams enjoyed closer than anticipated first-round clashes against Austria and Poland respectively, with France struggling to overcome a determined Austrian effort, while the Netherlands had to scramble back late to get the victory against Poland after falling behind early.
France has beaten the Netherlands in seven of their past eight meetings against them going back to 2014, with the last two head-to-heads coming via a 6-1 aggregate scoreline also in a rivalry thatโs become considerably wider across recent years.
However, the Dutch will have no better time in which to snap that recent trend with both Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud potentially ruled out here, Mbappe with his broken nose which he picked up against Austria, and Giroud questionable also with a groin injury.
That leaves a huge hole up top for France to fill in terms of goals if both fail to start in this one, even for a team that arguably boasts the deepest roster in world football.
However, on a plus note for France, all of their previous seven wins against the Netherlands have seen the French score inside the first half.
Even without their young talisman and potentially their experienced record goal scorer missing here also, France has more than enough depth and quality to call upon, and against a Netherlands defense that gave up 11 goal attempts against a poor Polish side over the weekend, France should have more than enough to carry on that first half tradition here, and bag at least one goal inside the opening 45 minutes against the Dutch.

After what was an optimistic start for Belgium under new manager Domenico Tedesco, not having lost a single international game since his appointment back in February 2023, those memories of their dire World Cup 2022 group stage exit must have resurfaced for Belgium once again as they were handed a 1-0 defeat to Slovakia in their opening game on Monday.
That defeat hardly represented what was going on on the pitch however, with Belgium vastly outplaying their opponents for the most part in that game, with two disallowed goals pulled back for the Belgians also.
That said, whether the defeat was warranted or not matters little here as they face a Romanian side on Saturday that are in some fine form right now, not only finishing top of their group during qualifying a full five points clear of next-best Switzerland, but also handed highly-fancied Ukraine a 3-0 thumping in their opening game of this tournament also.
Belgium simply has to bounce back here if they’re going to qualify, with Belgiumโs all-time record goal scorer Romelu Lukaku likely spearheading that renaissance if it is to happen. Lukaku scored a brace against Luxembourg in Belgiumโs final warm-up game before this tournament kicked off, and should have been on the scoresheet multiple times against Slovakia back in Matchday 1 also.
Weโre backing him to bounce back in this one and carry Belgium through with a win.
