Freiburg vs Nantes Betting Analysis

French relegation-battlers Nantes take on German high-flyers Freiburg on Thursday in a big game for both sides. Freiburg has enjoyed an amazing start to their Bundesliga campaign this year, sitting second in the league overall while taking care of their European duties as well with wins against Qarabag and Olympiacos to sit atop Group G.

Nantes, meanwhile, has struggled immensely this season over in France with last year’s Coupe de France winners currently residing in 16th position in French Ligue One, level on points with relegation side Reims.

In terms of European form, Nantes did score an opening day win against Greek champions Olympiacos, but looked really poor last time out against Qarabag, slipping to a lopsided 3-0 defeat in Baku.

As if their 3-0 loss to Qarabag last time out in the Europa League wasn’t bad enough, Nantes then got hammered 4-1 over the weekend against Monaco, and have just one win over their last nine league games.

On top of that, Nantes has not won a competitive game on the road since that historic Coupe de France triumph back in May, and an in-form Freiburg team is likely the last place they’ll want to travel to here on Thursday in order to snap that cold streak.

Freiburg Juggling Multiple Competitions

While Freiburg will not be taking this game lightly by any stretch, Christian Streich is nonetheless expected to rotate some players here on Thursday as he looks to keep pressure on at the summit of the Bundesliga table with another win against Hertha Berlin targeted for this upcoming weekend.

Testament to Freiburg’s success this year has been their defense which has kept five clean sheets over their last eight games across all competitions.

Even if Christian Streich does end up rotating some players in this one, Freiburg is playing at such a high level right now it’s almost impossible to fade them in this spot.

The only team to overcome Freiburg in Europa-Park Stadion this season have been Borussia Dortmund in a crazy game that Freiburg led for most of the way in before Dortmund exploded into life netting three goals inside just 11 minutes on to take the win.

Nantes does not possess that explosive offense, however, and even if they look to play tight in this one, Freiburg should have enough quality to break them down and win this one, possibly by a multiple-goal margin as well.
