Lens vs Marseille | Saturday May 6 | 3:00pm ET
Lens +130 | Marseille +200 | Draw +250
Top three clash in the league on Saturday as Marseille travel over to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis to take on Lens in a match with huge implications for Champions League football for next season.
Marseille currently holds the slender one-point advantage over Lens in 2nd position in the table, but have an inferior goal difference to the ‘Blood and Gold’, so any slip-ups here will be punished and see Lens leapfrog them into that final automatic Champions League spot.
Both teams are coming into this game in some excellent form overall, with Lens generating 2.40 PPG across their last five starts, while Marseille aren’t far behind them on 2.20 PPG, and this matchup also pitches the league’s best road team this season (Marseille) against the best home team (Lens), so something has to give here on Saturday evening.
This is a very difficult game to call from a side perspective as both Marseille and Lens have been in such strong form of late, so our angle into this one is going to be goals.
Lens have seen at least three goals scored in 67% of their last six home games overall, failing to score themselves just once across that run also, while only PSG have scored more goals away from home this season than Marseille have.
Take the Over 2.5 goals on Saturday in the French Ligue 1 matchup between Marseille and Lens.
Prediction: Over 2.5 (-120)
Angers vs Monaco | Sunday May 7 | 7:00am ET
Angers +530 | Monaco -215 | Draw +395
Angers confirmed their drop to down to Ligue 2 officially last weekend with a 4-2 loss against Rennes over at Roazhon Park, so it’ll be interesting to see how they respond ahead of this one.
They face a Monaco side on Sunday that have slipped badly out of contention for Champions League football across recent weeks, losing back-to-back games against Lens and Montpellier respectively, with Montpellier handing them a heavy 4-0 defeat in the process last week.
Monaco aren’t completely assured of Europa League football for next season either given Rennes currently sit just five points behind them in the table with a superior goal difference as well, so Monaco really need to steady the ship ahead of this one as another poor result here could makes things incredibly uncomfortable for them over the remaining few weeks of the season.
That said, Monaco have been dominant away from home this season, especially in front of goals, where they’ve netted 30 goals on the road this season, with only league leaders PSG having a greater overall tally than Monaco in terms of goals scored on the road this year.
Angers too should play with no pressure here considering they’ve already been relegated, and with the league’s worst defensive record giving up a massive 72 goals this season, this is likely to be end-to-end stuff on Sunday.
Take the Over 3 goals on Sunday in what should be an incredibly open, free-flowing game between Monaco and Angers in French Ligue 1 this weekend.
Prediction: Over 3 (-120)
Nantes vs Strasbourg | Sunday May 7 | 9:00am ET
Nantes +175 | Strasbourg +160| Draw +235
Huge relegation clash at the foot of the table in French Ligue 1 on Sunday as both Strasbourg and Nantes sit perilously close to the drop, with only goal difference currently separating either side right now.
Nantes have endured a miserable last couple of months in the league overall, ranking as the joint-third worst team in the league since March 1st generating an average of just 0.50 PPG, and currently find themselves mired in a ten-game winless run in the league also.
Strasbourg meanwhile haven’t fared much better than their hosts, generating just 0.83 PPG across their last six road starts overall, and owning the league’s 5th worst defensive xGA record away from home this season also, giving up 1.88 goals per game on average to opponents.
Despite both teams struggling form right now, Nantes numbers at home this year haven’t been all that bad, especially offensively, where they rank top half in the league in total shots on goal and set-piece creation goals as well, an area where Strasbourg have struggled in away from home this season.
This should be an incredibly tense game on Sunday between two teams who know each other all too well, with the reverse fixture finishing up in a 1-1 stalemate back in September as well. That’s a result we could well see play out here once again given everything at stake for both teams ahead of this one.
Take the outright draw between Strasbourg and Nantes on Sunday in their French Ligue 1 clash over in the Stade de la Beaujoire.
Prediction: Draw (+235)
