French Ligue 1 Predictions, Picks and Odds for Saturday September 22-24

PSG Home Stadium in French Ligue 1

Betting Preview for French Ligue 1 September 22-24

WagerTalk French Ligue 1 handicapper Kevin Dolan presents his French Ligue 1 September 22-24 predictions and picks around key matches including PSG vs Nice and Lorient vs Monaco. Which teams is he looking to pick up points and which will have goal scoring? Read his betting preview now!

Monaco vs Nice | September 22 | 3:00pm ET

Monaco +105 | Nice +240 | Draw +280

For the second time in as many weeks, Nice will find themselves on the road priced up as healthy underdogs in a big Friday night matchup, and just like last week, they will hope they can make a mockery of the pre-match odds by registering their third straight victory of the league campaign so far with another road win in Matchday 6.

Nice traveled to last season’s Ligue 1 champions PSG last Friday in an electric end-to-end matchup that saw five goals as the south coast club eventually got over the line with a brace from Terem Moffi that was enough to see them hold on for the win.

This Friday presents a different challenge however as they face local rivals Monaco in the Derby da la Cote d’Azur, one of the most hotly contested derby matchups in the whole of France between two clubs based on the French Riveria.

Monaco currently occupies the top spot in the league, but have started to slip up over recent games, winning just one of their last three matchups overall in French Ligue 1.

This should be another hotly contested derby match between two teams in some excellent form right now, and we believe the price on the outright draw here is oversized as a result in what should be a tight game between two solid teams on Friday night.

Prediction: Draw (+280)

Brest vs Lyon | September 23 | 3:00pm ET

Brest +150 | Lyon +170 | Draw +265

In what’s been a season to forget for former French heavyweights Lyon so far this year, the former French Ligue 1 champions who dominated the domestic scene for most of the 2000s, now find themselves in uncharted waters, staring at relegation after a winless five-game opening stretch to start the season.

That disastrous opening for the away side culminated in manager Laurent Blanc getting his marching orders after a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of long-time nemesis PSG three weeks ago, followed up with yet another lack-luster effort against newly-promoted Le Havre in a 0-0 draw last week also.

Les Gones have opted to replace Blanc with former Frosinone manager Fabio Grosso, the man who guided the Italian side to the Serie B title last year, but he surely has his work cut out here with a team in Lyon that currently owns the league’s joint worst goal differential across 2023-24.

Brest meanwhile have enjoyed one of their brightest starts to a French Ligue 1 campaign ever, amassing enough points in just five games this season that took them fifteen games to do last year.

That’s down to a stingy defense that is allowing the 3rd fewest goals to opponents this season behind only Nice and Marseille, along with owning the second-fewest shots allowed record at home also.

Lyon will no doubt get a lift from the arrival of Grosso to the dugout, a man who did such a tremendous job with Frosinone last season.

That said, he has experienced problems in the past managing foreign clubs, getting discharged with haste in his time in charge of Swiss club Sion after just 25 games played, and posting a sub-par 20% win rate.

Brest are just in too good of form to fade right now, so we’ll roll with them once again this weekend to get a result at home against a massively struggling Lyon side over at the Stade Francis-Le Ble.

Prediction: Brest PK (-120)

PSG vs Marseille | September 24 | 2:45pm ET

PSG -140 | Marseille +350 | Draw +315

Huge clash at the top of the Ligue 1 standings on Sunday as two of the title favorites clash this weekend over at the Parc des Princes in a game that could end up going a long way in determining the title race this season.

PSG will have the advantage not just in terms of playing at home here, but also the fact they’ll have two extra days of rest between Champions League and Europa League football, plus no travel for the home side either given they hosted Borussia Dortmund in this venue on Tuesday night while Marseille face a trip over to Amsterdam on Thursday to take on Dutch giants Ajax.

After a slow start to the season for Luis Enrique’s men which saw them undergo a raft of changes to their roster, most notably the absence of Messi, Sergio Ramos and Neymar, the Parisian giants looked to be in far better form on Tuesday night.

They dispatched Borussia Dortmund with relative ease in the Champions League, and may have finally settled into a rhythm with Mbappe, Kolo Muani, and Dembele up front.

Marseille meanwhile have also started the season in somewhat skittish form, winning just two of their opening five games overall, and haven’t had the best of times in the French capital either across recent seasons, losing seven of their last eight head-to-head matchups in this venue against PSG, and getting shutout in four of those seven games as well.

PSG look to have finally found a groove after a less than ideal start, and with the added rest and no travel time advantage over Marseille for this fixture, we like the home side to get the outright win in this one and inch closer to overtaking league leaders Monaco at the top of the table.

Prediction: PSG Moneyline (-143)
