Hoffenheim vs Augsburg Analysis
After a sensational road upset win over Bayer Leverkusen back in Match Day 2, Augsburg will hope that impressive road form carries over here into Sinsheim on Saturday when they take on Hoffenheim over in the German Bundesliga.
Hoffenheim, for their part, have posted two very good back-to-back wins now over recent Bundesliga starts and currently occupy a European spot in the table. Hoffenheim will no doubt see Saturday’s matchup against Augsburg as a way of solidifying that position even further.
Augsburg Dangerous On The Road
The win against Bayer Leverkusen isn’t the only impressive road performance on Augsburg’s resume in recent weeks. They also put a 4-0 beatdown on Lohne two weeks prior to that in the DFB Pokal, which has teams on alert as to the danger Augsburg presents on the road.
The Fuggerstadters have also netted in 13 of their last 17 road games as well, so Hoffenheim will need to be on high alert in this one in terms of keeping Augsburg quiet.
Hoffenheim’s Drop-Off To End Last Season
Hoffenheim enjoyed a pretty stellar start to last season’s campaign, staying within the European spots for most of last year before an almighty collapse over the final portion of the season.
Up to mid-April, Hoffenheim was still firmly in contention for a European spot, but zero wins over their final five games of the season, along with posting the Bundesliga’s worst points and goals allowed tally over that stretch, meant there were some serious questions being posed to them in the lead up to this year.
While Hoffenheim hasn’t categorically answered those questions conclusively yet, Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen has no doubt gone a long way in terms of calming some nerves at the club.
Hoffenheim vs Augsburg Prediction
We’re going with Augsburg +1.25 on the Asian handicap in this one, as not only have we been impressed with their overall road form so far this year, we’re still not completely sold on Hoffenheim going in as this much of a favorite either.
Despite the lopsided 3-0 final scoreline in Saturday’s game against Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim only actually owned a marginal 1.30-1.10 xG advantage over the hosts in that game in what was a competitive matchup overall, separated by Hoffenheim’s ability to take chances.
At the other end, Hoffenheim ranks bottom-3rd in the league this year in terms of overall defensive xGA, so Augsburg should get plenty of chances in this one, and catching over a full goal headstart here on the away side simply looks too good of an opportunity to pass up.
