Juventus vs Empoli Betting Analysis
Juventus welcomes in 10th-place Empoli on Friday looking to make up ground in the league table after a string of fairly disastrous results has seen the pressure on Maximiliano Allegri’s position at the club mount over recent weeks.
The Old Lady now sits bottom of Group H in the Champions League after losing to PSG and Benfica, plus suffering a shocking loss to Maccabi Haifa last time out. Juventus is now sitting on the brink of elimination in the group, and things haven’t gone much better for them domestically either with just two wins from their last six Serie A games overall.
Empoli, meanwhile, has fared much better than expected in their second season back in the Italian top flight. The Blues have gone unbeaten on the road over their lost four starts and halted Monza’s three-game winning streak over the weekend also (one of which came against Juventus), with a 1-0 win at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.
Empoli secured a shocking 1-0 win over Juventus in Turin last year through the efforts of Leonardo Mancuso’s winner in Allegri’s first game back in charge of Juventus. Prior to that, Juventus had never lost to Empoli in this venue in their history and had won nine-straight against them here.
Empoli Starting To Warm Up To The Road
It’s common to see newly-promoted teams look to make their home venues their fortresses when they move back up to the top flight, looking to use that 12th-man advantage to make life as difficult as possible for opposing teams.
However, that hasn’t been the case with Empoli who amassed more points on the road last season than at home, and are already on course for doing the same this year with six points gained from their opening five road games this season (good for the seventh-best away form in the league). So the side from Tuscany definitely shouldn’t be underestimated in this one.
Juventus Looking For More Consistency
Juventus has not won three-straight home matches in the calendar year 2022, and Friday’s clash with Empoli at the Allianz Arena is an opportunity to change that.
A victory over Torino in the ‘Derby della Mole’ has eased some pressure on Allegri but Juventus nevertheless needs to continue to win if the former coach who guided them to a Champions League final a few years ago is going to remain in his position.
Juventus has gone unbeaten at home this season, but has also frustratingly only alternated wins and draws in that capacity as well.
Juventus vs Empoli Prediction
We expect this to be a close, competitive affair here on Friday night in Turin with Empoli coming into this one full of confidence and Juventus looking to finally string two home league wins together for the first time all season.
However, Juventus has shown signs of getting back to their best, albeit very slowly, with Paul Pogba returning to training in midweek and striker Dusan Vlahovic netting the winner last time out against Torino. Vlahovic is currently tied atop this year’s Serie A golden boot standings.
The Juventus to “win by exactly one goal” prop is going off at a healthy +260 on Friday and that’s the way we’re going to play this one, as we envision a tight game in Turin that Juventus should nevertheless have enough to get over the line in.
