Liverpool vs Brighton Betting Analysis

Liverpool comes back from an international break badly needing a kick-start to their floundering season here after securing just two wins from their opening six games to open up the new campaign.

Thankfully for the Reds, Anfield is where they’ve found most of their success this season, running unbeaten at home so far this year and winning back-to-back games heading into this one as well.

Brighton face their first game without talismanic manager Graham Potter as he departed for Chelsea just before the break. Former Sassuolo manager Roberto De Zerbi takes over the post from the Englishman, but is somewhat of an unknown quantity with this being his first job in England over the course of his career.

Liverpool has won just one of their last four meetings against Brighton and have covered this handicap line of -1.5 in just two of the last eight head-to-head meetings between the two sides as well.

Heading Into The Unknown With Brighton

Brighton heads into Match Day 7 sitting above Liverpool in England’s top flight league for only the second time in their history.

While that may present some value on the Seagulls in this one catching a full 1.5-goal headstart against a struggling Liverpool side, especially given how well Brighton have started the season so far, we just don’t know what we’re going to get out of Brighton in this one.

Graham Potter was both a player’s and a fan favorite at the club and his departure will no doubt have left a huge hole that De Zerbi must now somehow fill, and he couldn’t have been given much more of a sterner opening test than facing a motivated Liverpool side at Anfield.

Liverpool Hoping For Reset

Liverpool has enjoyed one of the longest breaks in all of Europe heading into this game as their matchup against Chelsea was postponed just prior to the break, with the Reds not having played in the EPL since September 3rd.

They’ll be hoping that extensive time off will force a major reset with the team after enduring their worst start to a league campaign in over a decade.

Liverpool vs Brighton Prediction

Despite the unknowns with how De Zerbi will operate with this Brighton team, he nevertheless inherits a side that has lost just one game all season in the EPL and has covered this +1.5 handicap line in every game this year.

In terms of data, only Manchester City has allowed fewer overall defensive xGA scoring opportunities this season than Brighton has, so even with a new manager in charge, Brighton should provide a stern defensive test for Liverpool in this game.

Overall, we expect Liverpool to squeeze out a narrow win in this one with Brighton having enough to cover the spread here also.

Take Brighton +1.5 on Saturday against Liverpool in Saturday’s Premier League action.
