Manchester City vs Copenhagen Prediction – The Betting Analysis

Match Day 3 of the Champions League group stage finds third-place Copenhagen traveling to Manchester to take on the English champions. City sits atop the group with six points, while Copenhagen has recorded just one point through its first two matches.

Cityzens, err Haaland, Keep on Rolling

Man City is coming in off a high after defeating Manchester United 6-3 over the weekend in the Manchester derby. Erling Haaland continued his torrid start with a hat trick, his third already of the season. He has now scored in all but one match between the Premier League and Champions League, which of course was the one match I went to vs Bournemouth back in August.

Haaland has scored 14 goals in eight Premier League matches while adding three assists and he has scored three goals in their two Champions League matches thus far. There is absolutely no reason to think he won’t get on the board again in this match and with City instilled as very big -3.0 Asian handicap favorites, chances are Haaland will have a lot to do with whether they cover that number or not.

To put what he is doing in perspective, Haaland’s 14 league goals are just nine goals short of the joint Golden Boot winners Mo Salah and Son Heung-min from last year. And there are still 30 leagues matches remaining! While his EPL career is obviously very short, he currently is scoring one goal for every 14 touches. Jamie Vardy is the next best in that category at one goal for every 50 touches.

I’ll end with this one: At the age of 22, Haaland has scored 170 goals in his professional career. By comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 50 and Lionel Messi scored 44 at the same age.

Manchester City vs Copenhagen Prediction – Danes Unlikely to Compete

With all due respect to the Danish champions, the outcome of this match is a foregone conclusion.  Not a difficult Manchester City vs Copenhagen Prediction to make, a moneyline win – but there’s no money in that. The question is can they possibly keep this game close enough to cover the Asian handicap of +3.0, and I just don’t see it.

They lost 3-0 at Dortmund on Match Day 1 and allowed 2.29 xG to the former Haaland-side. While they did generate 0.53 xG themselves, only 0.06 came through open play while 0.47 was earned on set pieces and I just can’t see them breaking through midfield very often to get to City’s backline to challenge and possibly earn many, if any, corners. Perhaps a random free kick, but bottom line is they won’t see much in terms of real chances in this game. Even against Sevilla at home, they generated just 0.66 xG.

That leaves their only hope in containing Haaland, and considering nobody in the EPL has been able to do it, it seems unlikely Copenhagen will magically be able to.

Manchester City vs Copenhagen Prediction

Take City in this game in what seems like a 5-0 result. Pick your poison: Man City to win both halves (-175), Man City -3.0 (-120) or City’s team total over 3.5 (-115) are all great options. But my favorite is just trusting the wonder kid to do this thing: Erling Haaland to score 2+ goals (-110).
