Manchester City vs Nottingham Forest Analysis

After an outright draw nine days ago against Newcastle United and then falling behind against Crystal Palace 2-0 this past weekend, there were some nervous glances from the City support at halftime on Saturday.

However, City quickly restored order in that one with a four-goal blitz in the second half to take all three points in that game and now sit just two points off Arsenal at the top of the table.

Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, fell 2-0 to Tottenham but Steve Cooper will still nevertheless be satisfied with his team’s performance to start the season, with only Newcastle and Tottenham getting the better of Forest so far this year.

With Forest being out of the Premier League for so long over the last couple of decades, head-to-head meetings between the two sides have been fairly infrequent, with the last meeting taking place in the FA Cup back in 2009 ending in a 3-0 Nottingham Forest win.

Tricky Trees Play Tough On The Road

It’s important for any newly-promoted team to be pragmatic when getting going up to the Premier League, looking to survive first and foremost, establish a base and then to build from there.

Nottingham Forest, however, may be more pragmatic than most, shutting up shop when away from the comforts of the City Ground over seasons past as the Tricky Trees have given up two or fewer goals in 73-straight league road games heading into Wednesday’s clash against Manchester City.

City Needs To Pay Attention Early

Going 2-0 down to Crystal Palace within the opening 21 minutes raised some eyebrows at the Etihad last weekend, but it’s been nothing new for this City team who have found themselves at least two goals adrift in four of their last six Premier League games overall.

That can’t continue indefinitely, however, as while they’ve managed to get out of jail so far from those four games (W2, D2), their firepower won’t always be able to get them out of tight spots. Pep’s bunch will need to rekindle a defense that ranked No. 1 in the league last season on both opponent scoring and defensive xGA moving forward.

Manchester City vs Nottingham Forest Prediction

It’s hard to see Nottingham Forest being competitive here, especially with a much more winnable game coming up against Bournemouth this weekend. Steve Cooper may well take a more pragmatic approach to this game and look to target that one instead for Saturday.

Whether he does or doesn’t is somewhat immaterial regardless, as even with Forest’s best effort here, Manchester City is an immensely strong outfit and have a striker in Erling Haaland looking to break the first five-game goal-scoring record here on Wednesday. City should be firing on all cylinders in this one.

Manchester City should win this game fairly comfortably on Wednesday and we like them to win by exactly two goals in this one on the winning margin prop at a healthy +350 against Nottingham Forest over in the English Premier League this midweek.
