Napoli vs Atalanta Betting Analysis
Napoli finally saw some chinks in their armor appear last Friday as Lazio became the first team to travel to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this season and come out with a victory.
In a game that didn’t create too many clear-cut scoring opportunities, a Matias Vecino rocket shot was enough to give the visitors all three points in that one.
Napoli will look to rebound in this one facing an Atalanta side that have gone winless in three straight league games, but who should never be underestimated away from home, ranking as Serie A’s joint-2nd best road team this year sitting only behind their current hosts of Napoli in terms of total points gained.
Napoli have won both of their recent two league meetings against Atalanta, but in this venue, Atalanta have fared much better, losing just once to Napoli across their last six head-to-heads in Naples, with three of those coming as outright wins for the away side also.
Results Not Going Atalanta’s Way
With Atalanta seemingly losing steam in the race for Europe next season, registering one win from their last five games overall, a trip to Napoli might not be the first thing that comes to mind when looking to correct that streak.
However, La Dea have arguably been unfortunate across that stretch, outgaining their opponents in xG in three of those five matchups overall, and have enjoyed somewhat of a hoodoo over this Napoli side in recent years as well, scoring in nine consecutive matches against them.
One Eye On Europe
Napoli will no doubt have one eye cast towards next Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt as they look to ensure their passage through to the quarter-finals of that competition for the first time in the club’s history.
That should provide a ton of pressure for the home side next week despite carrying over a 2-0 lead from leg one, and with a current 15-point cushion at the top of the Serie A table even with last Friday’s loss against Lazio, it would be understandable if Napoli had one eye elsewhere in this one come Saturday.
Napoli vs Atalanta Expert Prediction
Atalanta have proven themselves to be a major thorn in Napoli’s side across the last few seasons, and despite their recent poor stretch of results, we expect them to continue that here by covering the spread in Naples on Saturday.
The line is currently floating between -0.75/-1 on Napoli at time of writing, and we certainly don’t mind paying that bit extra to lock in Atalanta with a full goal headstart in this one.
With one eye already focused on next weekend’s Champions League encounter against Frankfurt, we’d be very surprised if Napoli win this game by margin on Saturday.
