Napoli vs Sassuolo Analysis
Napoli hosts Sassuolo on Saturday afternoon looking to rebound after a disastrous meltdown against Empoli last weekend which saw the Neapolitans effectively lose whatever slim chance they had of winning their first Scudetto title in over 30 years.
They face a Sassuolo side this weekend who have just one win over their last four starts themselves and sit in relative mid-table obscurity, their lowest position in the table since the 2018/19 season.
End Of An Era At Sassuolo
With Sassuolo very likely finishing in their worst league position in three seasons, the sharks are circling in Italy in terms of luring away their more prominent players.
AC Milan has emerged as front runners to sign influential winger Domenico Berardi in the summer and have also reached out to Hamed Junior Traore’s agent as well who has bagged eight goals and four assists for Sassuolo this season.
With Juventus seeemingly interested in replacing Paulo Dybala with Sassuolo’s Giacomo Raspadori also, that would effectively almost completely gut Sassuolo’s entire attack bar striker Gianluca Scamacca, and it could well be a long road back for the ‘Neroverdi’ losing such a high profile list of players.
Subdued Atmosphere Expected At The Diego Maradona
With a current three-game winless run and a shocking late game collapse against Empoli last time out, a large proportion of Napoli fans have said they’re boycotting the game on Saturday to protest at the club’s poor performance since the start of the calendar year.
Just three home wins in the league since December 2021 has put Napoli firmly in the bottom half of the league in terms of overall home form in 2022 and with just 3,000 tickets sold in pre-sale for this game, the fans may well follow through with that promise.

We’re looking at goals in this one on Saturday as we don’t believe we’ll see much defensive intensity from either side in this one with such little to play for and what’s likely to be a very subdued atmosphere in Naples as well.
Sassuolo have given up the league’s fourth-highest goals against to opponents as it is over 2022 so far and Napoli have been slipping defensively of late also, not having kept a clean sheet in Serie A since early February.
We’re taking the over 3.25 goals here on Saturday in what’s set to be an entertaining game between Sassuolo and Napoli in the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this weekend.
