Netherlands vs Argentina Betting Analysis

The Round of 16 saw plenty of goals as six of the eight matches went over the posted total. Most of those games featured some serious mismatches as the favorite was able to advance from every matchup with the lone exception being Morocco beating Spain.

Those advancing favorites all scored multiple goals with several going over the total by themselves. As we roll into the quarterfinal and the sides become much more evenly matched, I think we see that trend reverse. With all eight of these teams now sensing that the trophy is within reach, games will get slower and tighter as each team aims to minimize any mistakes.

Lock-Down Defense

This one has all the makings of a tight, low-scoring contest and a good reason why the oddsmakers have this total set as the lowest of the four quarterfinals.

Argentina has been fantastic defensively this entire tournament. The three goals they have allowed were all unlikely goals as they continue to lead the tournament allowing a measly 4.0 shots per game with just 1.25 on goal per game.

Netherlands, meanwhile, has been stingy as well conceding just two goals in four matches. USA did generate a decent number of chances on them, especially in the second half, but that was mostly driven by the situation as the Dutch side took a two-goal lead and tried mostly to protect that as opposed to trying to hit the USA on the break like they did in the first half.

Netherlands vs Argentina Prediction

This has all the makings of a 0-0 halftime score, but even trying to grab the first half under is tough as under 1.0 is listed around -200.

The full game total is listed at 2.25 goals on the Asian handicap, with the under trading around -130. Half your wager goes on under 2.0 goals and the other half goes on under 2.5 goals. If regulation time ends with zero or one goal, we’ll win our full stake on the under. If two goals are scored, we’ll win half our stake. The only way we lose our full wager is if 3+ goals are scored in the match.
