Nice vs PSG Analysis
With PSG still holding a commanding position at the top of the French Ligue One table, a full 15 points clear of second-place Marseille, they haven’t been so hot on the road of late winning just one of their last five on the road overall since December.
Nice, meanwhile, have recovered after a disappointing February with a mini three-game unbeaten run of their own and have taken nine points from a possible 12 over their last four home games as well.
Both teams have faced each other twice already this season, with a 0-0 draw taking place in the French capital back in December and Nice knocking PSG out of the cup last month in a high-pressure penalty shootout in Paris.
PSG’s Tough Sandwich Spot
While no-one can argue how strong PSG have been domestically this season with a 19-5-2 overall record, one huge dip for the Parisians this season has been their record surrounding pivotal Champions League games.
PSG needed an incredibly late 92nd-minute Kylian Mbappe winner to see off Rennes in the game immediately before their big Real Madrid showdown last month and followed that up just a couple of days later with a disappointing 3-1 loss to Nantes.
Nice Looking for Strong Push in March
After a strong early season start behind league leaders PSG for most of the year, Nice slipped up badly in February registering back-to-back losses against 15th-place Clermont Foot and Lyon respectively to see them slip down to third in the table.
However, the ‘Eaglets’ maybe aren’t out of the woods yet as they come off a really disappointing performance against Strasbourg last time out which saw the south coast team manage just 0.15 xG offensively in that game.
Nice vs PSG Prediction
This is a tough game to call for many reasons, most notably PSG’s poor form surrounding important Champions League games, especially this week as they hold a slender one-goal advantage against Real Madrid heading into Spain on Wednesday.
In direct contrast to that, we have a situation where PSG will most likely still be smarting from Nice knocking them out of the cup last month, so we may well get a much more focused effort from Mauricio Pochettino’s men here on Saturday.
If that’s the case, we’re going to avoid the side completely in this one and instead focus on the total, with over 2.5 goals going off at around -140.
PSG have averaged a really impressive 3.24 xG per game over their two most recent starts and put five goals past former champions Lille last month also in a rout.
While both of the most recent H2H’s between these two teams have finished goalless after 90 minutes, prior to that, this is a series that has traditionally produced a ton of action, with PSG scoring 3+ goals in each of their last three road games against Nice and 11 of their last 12 H2H’s prior to the two most recent ones, all featuring at least three goals in the match.
Take the over 2.5 goals on Saturday in the game between PSG and Nice over in French Ligue One.
