Chelsea registered their first win under returning boss Frank Lampard last weekend against Bournemouth since he came back to the club at the beginning of April.

That was a long time coming as well as in Chelsea’s defense they do rank top four in defensive xGA in the league since April 1st, but were simply unable to turn that defensive pressure into actual results on the pitch.

Nottingham Forest meanwhile came off a monster win on Monday night themselves, overcoming a game and incredibly determined Southampton side in a 4-3 thriller over at the City Ground.

Forest looked to have the game in hand early, holding a 3-1 cushion at the half, but Saints just refused to go away as, like Nottingham Forest, they were fighting for their Premier League survival in that game.

That victory for Nottingham Forest has seen them take six points from their last three games overall, and boss Steve Cooper will no doubt be happy with that return considering where this team were just a couple of weeks ago.

While there’s still work to do obviously and they’re far from safe, Nottingham Forest’s seven straight road defeats shows that the Tricky Trees continue to have problems playing away from their home fortress of West Bridgford, and that could suit Chelsea in this one who will no doubt want to build on the momentum gained last week with another strong performance in front of their home fans on Saturday over at Stamford Bridge.

Take Chelsea to get the home win and cover this weekend against Nottingham Forest in West London.

Southampton vs Fulham | Saturday, May 13 | 10:00am ET

With a current nine point gap between themselves and safety given their league-worst -33 goal difference this season, it’s fair to say that Southampton’s loss against fellow relegation strugglers Nottingham Forest on Monday night has finally sealed their fate in terms of getting demoted down to the Championship ahead of next season.

Despite that, Southampton are continuing to play competitively in games, and with players such as James Ward-Prowse, Kyle Walker-Peters and Che Adams, have the talent pool to view the final few weeks of the season as a way to showcase their skills for a potentially big move away in the summer, just as some of Burnley’s players were able to do last season as well.

Fulham meanwhile were involved in yet another wild west style shootout on Monday night themselves against Leicester City, overcoming the Foxes 5-3 in what was frankly a blowout type victory before Leicester were able to recover late and put some respectability on the scoreline.

Fulham have continued to be a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team in the league to close out the season, putting a combined 10 goals past Leicester, Leeds and Everton respectively, while failing to score a single goal against either Liverpool, Aston Villa or West Ham.

While there’s definitely a talent gap between those teams just mentioned, Fulham’s numbers regardless have been poor away from home this year, sitting with the 5th worst expected goals differential on the road this year, and much lower than what Southampton have managed at St. Mary’s.

While the Southampton may be doomed from a club perspective, the players have a chance to showcase their skills here, and we like Southampton to put in a solid performance at home on Saturday and come away with a positive result against Fulham down on the south coast.
