Wolves at Arsenal | December 2 | 10:00am ET
Wolves +920 | Arsenal -330 | Draw +460
Wolves continued their hectic season on Monday night with a disappointing 3-2 loss against struggling Fulham, handing the Cottagers their first win in the Premier League in five games.
And that’s been Wolves’ story for many seasons now, able to play both up and down respective to their level of competition, securing wins against the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City, but then losing outright against both Sheffield United and Fulham in subsequent games.
That rollercoaster form for Wolves however suggests that at current odds of +930 to win this game outright on Saturday, and catching +1.5 on the handicap also, the men from the West Midlands could potentially provide some value this weekend traveling down to the English capital.
They face an Arsenal team on Saturday however who have just gone top of the Premier League table yet again after a competitive 1-0 road win against Brentford at the weekend, and one who also owns the league’s best defensive xGA numbers at home this season as well.
That Brentford win was far from convincing though, and despite the Gunners’ recent solid form in the league, the fact their last three wins have come against Brentford, Burnley, and Sheffield United still leaves a few question marks in terms of their overall ability to cover this line on Saturday, a line they’ve only covered three times all season at home.
Wolves have given Arsenal trouble across recent years at the Emirates also, covering this +1.5 line in four of their last five visits here, albeit with that one exception being their previous visit here back in April which resulted in a comprehensive 5-0 routing by Arsenal.
With Wolves having the better overall xG of the two teams going back to October 1st, and Arsenal being distracted by European duties this week as well, the men from the West Midlands could well stifle the Gunners in this one and we like Wolves on the +1.5 handicap line on Saturday.
Premier League Prediction: Wolves +1.5 (-105)
Sheffield United at Burnley | December 2 | 10:00am ET
Sheffield United +325 | Burnley -115 | Draw +260
Two teams with the lowest win percentages out of any team in the Premier League this season battle it out over at Turf Moor this weekend in order to try and escape their current predicament of sitting locked inside the relegation zone to kick off the month of December.
The Blades actually enter Saturday’s contest in the better run of form overall, generating four points from their last three games in the Premier League, but do come off a lopsided 3-1 loss at home against fellow strugglers Bournemouth last weekend.
For Burnley however, it’s been an even worse run of form, coming off their sixth straight Premier League defeat on Saturday against West Ham, with the Clarets accumulating just one win all season, coincidentally the exact same number of wins that Sheffield United have managed this season also.
Despite the recent form book though, oddsmakers have installed Burnley as odds-on favorites for Saturday’s matchup, and looking at the overall data this season it’s clear to see why, with the Clarets owning the much better expected points, offensive xG, and defensive xGA numbers, both across recent game sample size (since October 1st), and season-long as well.
Burnley hasn’t lost to Sheffield United at Turf Moor since 2008, winning and shutting out Sheffield United across each of their last two encounters here, and we’ll trust the Clarets to deliver one more time this Saturday.
Premier League Prediction: Burnley to Win to Nil (+180)
Tottenham at Manchester City | December 3 | 11:30am ET
Tottenham +765 | Manchester City -325 | Draw +505
Massive game on deck for Sunday as champions Manchester City host former Premier League table-toppers Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
Tottenham’s lofty days as the top team in the league just a few short weeks ago now seem like a distant memory as Spurs suffered their third consecutive defeat on Sunday against Aston Villa as their injury list continues to grow, with midfielder Rodrigo Betancur joining a long list of players at the weekend now out of the Spurs lineup for the immediate future.
That list includes Tottenham’s central midfield pairing of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, along with playmakers Ivan Perisic and James Maddison also, as Tottenham’s short-handedness in games continues to be a major Achilles heel for them of late.
Manchester City meanwhile came off their second straight draw in the league at the weekend with a 1-1 draw against fellow title challengers Liverpool, a result that followed on from a rollercoaster 4-4 draw against Chelsea just two weeks prior.
Those results are ones manager Pep Guardiola will likely be unhappy with however as Manchester City was the dominant team in both of those fixtures, yet was unable to secure all three points in either one.
Tottenham famously won 3-2 at this venue early last year, with current Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane being instrumental in that success, scoring a brace, but with his absence combined with Tottenham’s ever-growing list of injuries ahead of Sunday’s matchup, that result looks like a far off proposition in terms of repeating this weekend.
Tottenham have been the 5th worst team in the league in defensive xGA since October 1st, and with their defense continuing to be massively short-handed this weekend, Manchester City could potentially put a bit of a beating on Spurs this Sunday.
Take Manchester City’s Team Total Goals Over 2.5 this weekend against Tottenham.
Premier League Prediction: Manchester City Team Total Goals – Over 2.5 (-115)
