Southampton vs Manchester United | September 14 | 7:30AM ET
Southampton +345 | Manchester United -135 | Draw +300
Back-to-back defeats have now put Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag under even more pressure after suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat against historic rivals Liverpool two weeks ago.
The game was effectively over for United within the opening 45 minutes as Liverpool’s Luis Diaz scored a brace for the Reds with Liverpool almost netting a third as well only for it to be called back due to an offside in the build-up play early on.
Southampton have had an even worse start to the season however, with three straight defeats on the bounce, so Saturday’s early kick-off game will present a huge opportunity for Manchester United to try and reverse those recent fortunes against a team expected to go down.
Ten Hag therefore isn’t the only manager under pressure currently, with Southampton’s Russell Martin also facing immense criticism because of his perceived ‘over-complicated’ style of play in games.
With so much pressure on both managers ahead of this one, we could well see a cagier than expected game here at St. Mary’s on Saturday, with the Under cashing in each of the last four meetings between the two teams, as well as the Both Teams to Score-No prop cashing in each of the last two as well.
Premier League Prediction: Both Teams to Score – No (+138)
Aston Villa vs Everton | September 14 | 12:30PM ET
Aston Villa -200 | Everton +525 | Draw +350
The Toffees are in absolute free-fall to start the season after allowing a combined ten goals across their opening three Premier League games for zero points and sitting rock-bottom in the table overall.
Their last outing was especially tragic for Everton as they let slide a 2-0 lead late, allowing three goals to a visiting Bournemouth side across the final nine minutes of action in what was a disastrous collapse for the Liverpool-based side.
Whether they can get any change from an Aston Villa side in this one that has been performing extremely well under the stewardship of Unai Emery across recent seasons is the big question here, but there’s no doubt that Everton needs to start putting points on the board sooner rather than later.
The Villains have an impressive record after international breaks as well, winning each of their last five encounters during that scenario, but may well be overly distracted here considering their first-ever Champions League appearance is coming up against Young Boys on Tuesday.
Everton, however, have tended to be a thorn in Aston Villa’s side in recent years, especially inside Villa Park, with the Villains enjoying victory on just four occasions here from their last twelve meetings.
That included their last clash at this venue back in 2023 which ended in a 2-1 win to Everton thanks to the efforts of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late goal.
However, that was in the EFL Cup, and Aston Villa, despite their major upcoming assignment in the Champions League on Tuesday, should be too strong for Everton in this one. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Toffees managed to grab a goal.
Premier League Prediction: Everton Exact Team Total Goals – 1 (+120)
Wolves vs Newcastle | September 15 | 11:30AM ET
Wolves +230 | Newcastle +110 | Draw +265
Despite being strongly favored as one of the pre-season favorites to challenge for a Champions League spot once again this year, Newcastle will be far from impressed with their start to their Premier League campaign in 2024/25.
The Magpies were extremely fortunate in Matchday 1 against Southampton, losing defender Fabian Schar early on in that game, yet managing to grab the win regardless, that coming despite a 19-3 goal attempts advantage for Southampton.
Newcastle didn’t fare much better against Bournemouth in their subsequent game either, with the Cherries almost coming out on top in that one after a late header by Dango Ouattara was denied via a controversial VAR decision.
Whether the Magpies can finally kick their season into gear ahead of this game remains an open question, but they’ll likely need to if they’re going to contain a team in Tottenham that put four goals past Everton last week, and who really should have been free and clear against Leicester back in Matchday 1 also.
This fixture has seen a ton of goals across recent seasons, with the last three Premier League meetings between the two teams witnessing a colossal average of 5.3 goals per game.
That could be a scenario that plays out here on Sunday also with Newcastle finally kicking their season into gear while being matched offensively by a rampant Tottenham team in this one.
Premier League Prediction: Draw (+265)
