Manchester City vs Leeds | Saturday 5/6 | 9:00am ET
Manchester City -610 | Leeds +1370 | Draw +740
Last week’s heavy 4-1 defeat against Bournemouth saw Javi Gracia’s relatively short reign as Leed’s manager come to an end this week as the club made sweeping changes in order to try and save their season.
Gracia was officially given his marching orders on Wednesday morning, but wasn’t the only casualty of the new era, with his entire backroom staff gone alongside him plus director of football Victor Orta also after just twelve games in charge for the Spanish coach.
In his place will arrive the experienced Sam Allardyce who has become known for his role as a kind of club savior, coming in and saving teams from almost certain relegation. That’s a feat he’s achieved multiple times over his career so far, although he did fall short of that in his last managerial role in charge of West Brom.
With just four games left on the season and a hefty $3,146,000 bonus should he get to Leeds to safety, there’s plenty of incentive for Allardyce to achieve that ahead of this game, but they face a Manchester City team on Saturday who are in some absolutely ruthless form right now.
At home they’ve outscored opponents by a colossal 50 goals-to-6 across 2023 so far, and look destined to lift their fifth Premier League title in six years as a result.
Even with Big Sam at the helm and a trip to the Bernabeu looming on Tuesday for Manchester City also, it’s difficult see the Cityzens being slowed down here against one of the worst defensive teams in the league, and because of that, we’re going to side with goals in this one on Saturday.
Prediction: Over 3.5 (-115)
Newcastle vs Arsenal | Sunday 5/7 | 10:30am ET
Newcastle +145 | Arsenal +165 | Draw +275
Huge top three clash over in the EPL on Sunday as Arsenal look to continue their title bid with a positive result against Newcastle, a result likely easier said than done as they travel to a hostile St. James’ Park on Tyneside this weekend.
As good as Arsenal have been this year, leading the league for most of the season, Newcastle have been almost equally as impressive, with their overall defensive presence and quality business in the respective transfer windows being particular highlights across Eddie Howe’s two seasons in charge of the Magpies.
In terms of recent form, Arsenal were able to bounceback in midweek with a comfortable 3-1 victory over struggling Chelsea, but prior to that had endured a four game winless run in the league, failing to keep a single clean sheet across any of those five games as well.
Newcastle meanwhile have been one of the hottest teams in the league over their last five starts, generating 2.40 PPG on average, as well as ranking #1 in the league on total points gained since March 1st also, albeit with two extra games played than Manchester City.
Newcastle were able to grind out a draw in the Emirates against Arsenal back in January, and took all three points against the Gunners the last time these two teams faced each other in St. James’ Park back in May of last year.
Newcastle have won four straight games up in the north-east heading into this one, outscoring opponents 13-3 at St. James’ Park in the process, and we’re leaning towards another positive result for the home side on Sunday as well.
Prediction: Newcastle PK (-115)
Nottm Forest vs Southampton | Monday 5/1 | 3:00pm ET
Nottm Forest +110 | Southampton +250 | Draw +255
Two teams mired deep in the relegation battle clash on Monday night in a massive standalone game over in the EPL taking place at the City Ground.
With just four games remaining on the season, Southampton likely need a small miracle to stay up as they currently sit seven points off the pace in the race for survival and would need a series of other results to go their way as well.
Nottingham Forest meanwhile hold a bit more of their own destiny in their hands ahead of this one, with only goal difference currently keeping them locked in the relegation zone right now, although it’s a goal difference so poor (-32), that they’ll likely need to generate more points than the teams around them in order to survive.
That said, Nottingham Forest have actually been playing pretty well of late, giving high-flying Aston Villa a really good game a few weeks ago, as well as scoring a brace against Liverpool, beating Brighton 3-1, and getting very unlucky last weekend against Brentford, with the Bees grabbing the winner deep into injury time of that game.
Southampton meanwhile haven’t been anywhere near as impressive as their hosts, with their 3-3 draw against Arsenal two weeks ago coming as the only solace in a run that’s contained five additional defeats in the league since mid-March.
Nottingham Forest’s home form, while strong in the early-mid portion of the season, has suffered somewhat across recent months, with a W1, D3, L2 record over their last six games inside the City Ground.
However, those recent games came against some quality teams, with Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle and Brighton just some of the opponents they’ve faced across that recent run.
Southampton certainly don’t qualify in that grade, and with the good form Nottingham Forest have been in of late, at least in terms of their performances, combined with what should be a ferocious atmosphere at the East Midlands ground on Monday night, we’re expecting Forest to have enough to get over the line in this one against Southampton.
Prediction: Nottingham Forest ML (+110)
