PSG vs Angers Betting Analysis
PSG unsurprisingly sit atop of French Ligue 1 ahead of Matchday 18 as they take on bottom-of-the-table Angers on Wednesday, but what did come as a surprise was the way in which they were dispatched fairly conclusively last time out against Lens.
PSG had almost twice the number of dangerous attacks and a higher xG than Lens in that game, but it failed to matter, as Lens were far more clinical in attack than the Parisians, and with that win closed the gap at the top of the table to just four points as a result.
Angers meanwhile, despite an extremely brief two-game winning streak back in September, have had a miserable season overall, losing 13 of their 17 games outright and rank as the only team still with a single-digit point tally this season, with books unsurprisingly having them listed as heavy -700 favorites for the drop.
PSG have won all of their previous nine meetings between the two clubs in Paris and have put at least five goals past them in two of their last three head-to-head meetings here also.
Changes Needed At Angers
With Angers on a current run of eight straight Ligue 1 defeats, their worst run in club history, along with being blanked (scoring no goals) in all of their last three away games as well, it came as no surprise to see the departure of manager Gerald Baticle from the club at the end of November.
His replacement, former youth development coach Abdel Bouhazama, faces a huge task ahead of him in order to try and turn this club’s fortunes around, no more so than on Wednesday traveling to Parc des Princes to take on the current champions.
PSG Streets Ahead In Ligue 1
While it’s fair to say the Parisians will be in no rush for Ligue 1 officials to schedule another New Year’s Day game for them anytime soon, especially with the way they looked against Lens last time out, there’s no denying PSG’s overall dominance in the league this season and the job Christophe Galtier has done with this team.
PSG lead the league not only in points gained this year, but also in pretty much every other available metric as well, ranking 1st in offensive scoring, offensive xG, defensive xGA, and xPTS this season.
PSG vs Angers Prediction
Angers have the worst defensive scoring record in the league this year, but on the road, this hasn’t been the case as ‘Les Scoistes’ tend to play a tighter brand of football than they usually do at home.
That will very likely be the case once again in this one as Angers will operate an extremely deep sitting style against PSG and look to soak up pressure, something they did to great effect against former champions Lille not too long ago in a close 1-0 loss on the road.
With the total sitting at 4 goals right now, we believe that’s simply too high here and we’re happy to take a piece of the Under 4 goals (-120) on Wednesday in the French Ligue 1 matchup between Angers and PSG over in Paris.
