Rangers vs RB Leipzig Analysis

RB Leipzig travels to Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow on Thursday in possibly their worst form of the season since current boss Domenico Tedesco took charge of the club back in December.

Back-to-back losses now for Leipzig over in the German Bundesliga has them firmly on the outside looking in in terms of a potential Champions League spot for next season and they’ll need to regroup quickly if they’re going to progress from this tie.

Rangers meanwhile are very close to losing their domestic crown to arch-rivals Celtic over in Scotland, sitting six points back with only three games remaining, and with only one team getting automatic Champions League qualification from Scotland this season, then Rangers will know a victory here is their best chance at Champions League football for next season.

The two sides have a short history in Europe with RB Leipzig coming out tops in both games, albeit one being a friendly, but this will mark their first visit to Ibrox.

Tedesco Looks To Steady The Ship

After a phenomenal record over 2022 which saw Leipzig rank as the No. 1 team in the Bundesliga on the calendar year, the ‘Red Bulls’ have had to navigate some choppy waters of late, and bar last week’s close victory over Rangers, Leipzig haven’t won a game since mid-April.

A trip to a formidable Ibrox ground is probably the last thing Tedesco needs right now protecting such a slender lead and Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be sure to use that passionate home crowd to his full advantage here on Thursday night.

All Or Nothing For Rangers

With the domestic title slipping away it’s all or nothing for Rangers ahead of this one as they look to reach their first European final in this competition (formerly the UEFA Cup) since the 2007/08 season.

That will be easier said than done however as Rangers have a pretty miserable record facing German opposition in Europe, winning just 15 of 49 games over their history against teams in the Bundesliga.

Rangers vs RB Leipzig Prediction

We’re going with Rangers catching a half-goal headstart here on Thursday night at home against RB Leipzig.

RB Leipzig is fighting battles on multiple fronts right now and it’s starting to take a toll on their roster as their recent schedule has intensified.

Rangers will have two extra days to prepare for this game and will welcome in an RB Leipzig team into a Glasgow atmosphere that is one of the most intimidating in Europe, with former greats Samuel Eto, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluigi Buffon, Lionel Messi among many others, praising the twin stadiums of Glasgow, Celtic Park and Ibrox, as two of the most intimidating atmospheres in all of Europe.

That should provide Rangers with a much needed spark here in a game Leipzig don’t need to win in in order to progress, so expect Rangers to be the ones with the much greater energy in this one.

Take Rangers +0.5 on Thursday night in their Europa League semifinal against RB Leipzig.
