Real Madrid vs Manchester City Analysis

Manchester City head to the Bernabeu on Wednesday night after a thrilling 4-3 encounter last week against Real Madrid over in Manchester.

City looked in complete control early in that first leg with goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus opening the scoring before Real Madrid did what they’ve so often done over this Champions League campaign so far and that’s roar back into the tie through the efforts of Champions League top scorer Karim Benzema.

The two sides have a long history in European competition over the last decade but Manchester City have won each of the last four head-to-head’s between the two teams.

Manchester City Hoping For History To Repeat Itself

With the race for the Premier League title still in full swing, Manchester City took a much needed step towards claiming that goal with a 4-0 victory over Leeds at the weekend, so they should be in good spirits heading into this one.

On top of that, despite recent Champions league semi-finals to forget themselves, Manchester City will be hoping at least one facet of history repeats itself here on Wednesday as Real Madrid have never progressed to a Champions League/European Cup final after losing a semi-final first leg, just like they did in Manchester last week.

The Karim Benzema Show

Karim Benzema, arguably the most in-form striker on the planet right now, has continued to light up the 2021/22 season, becoming the first Real Madrid player since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to score 40 or more goals in a single season for the club.

On top of that, Benzema has scored 14 goals over this current Champions League campaign, #1 in the tournament, with 9 of them coming in the knockout round also as he continues to be the bane of defenses right across Europe and will likely be a very real test to City’s current three game clean sheet road record here as well.

Real Madrid vs Manchester City Prediction

Just like last week, we expect goals in this one on Wednesday night between Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Madrid came off a 4-0 victory over Espanyol at the weekend to officially claim the LaLiga title, so they should be in incredibly high spirits ahead of this one.

With Madrid scoring an average of 3.25 goals per game across their last four starts and scoring 2+ goals in six of their last seven competitive starts at home also, they’ll be dangerous throughout in this game and might look to take City on in this game in order to gain a foothold back in the tie.

If Madrid do that then City have the ability to exploit them on the opposite end and we could well end up seeing another barnburner here on Wednesday between two of the most potent attacking teams in Europe.

Look for more goals in this one on Wednesday and take the Over 3 goals as the play for Manchester City and Real Madrid in this week’s pivotal leg two semi-final.

Prediction: Over 3 Goals Scored
