Santos vs Bragantino Analysis

Huge mid-table clash on Saturday over in Brazil as eighth-place Red Bull Bragantino travels to the Estadio Vila Belmiro to take on seventh-place Santos with both teams on exactly 17 points heading into Match Day 13.

Bragantino has had the slightly better going of it of late with two wins from their last three overall, one of them a solid 4-2 win over Coritiba last time out, with Santos having won just one of their last seven games overall, being forced to come from behind to beat 19th-place Juventude in midweek.

Santos has not lost to Bragantino since all the way back to 2018, but has won just one of their last six head-to-heads against them also, with three of their last five finishing by an exact 1-1 scoreline.

Bragantino the Long Ball Masters

No team in the league this season has hit more long balls up front to initiate attacks than Red Bull Bragantino has this season.

Getting on the end of those more often than not is attacking midfielder Artur who has bagged three goals this year already for the ‘Massa Bruta Braga’ as Bragantino often tend to forego short passes (15th in the league) to hit that deep ball downfield.

However, they face a team in Santos on Saturday with the league’s fifth-best deep ball defense this year so it’ll be interesting to see whether Bragantino can continue that success moving forward.

Santos Getting It Done Up Front

Only two teams have scored more goals at home this season than Santos have, that being first-place Palmeiras and third-place Sao Paulo, as the ‘Alvinegro Praiano’ have averaged an impressive 1.67 goals per game at home this year, along with with the league’s fourth-highest xG mark and fourth-highest shots per game count also.

On the flip side however, despite only allowing four goals at home this season, Santos will no doubt be concerned by their high opponent shot count, giving up the second-highest opponent shots per game in the league this season at home and shutting out just 33% of all of their opponents also.

Santos vs Bragantino Prediction

We like Santos on the -0.25 handicap line to win and cover at home against Red Bull Bragantino this weekend.

Despite their recent issues winning just one of their last seven games in the league overall, Santos’ forward areas should find a ton of success in this one against a Bragantino side that has given up the second-most chances in the league inside the opposition third and one that has kept just 20% of all of their games this season away from home scoreless as well.

We expect Santos to score here and shut down that deep ball threat from Bragantino at the other end in what should be an entertaining game on Saturday.

Take Santos -0.25 this weekend to win and cover at home against Red Bull Bragantino over in Brazilian Serie A.
