Scotland vs Ireland Betting Analysis

Scotland is coming off a commanding 3-0 win over Ukraine in midweek to go top of the group and the Scots will look for revenge against the Irish here on Saturday as it continues to represent their only dropped points of the campaign so far.

Ireland, for their part, has not enjoyed the best of success over this Nations League campaign so far, winning just one of their four games overall and losing to bottom side Armenia in their opening matchup.

Ireland has enjoyed the better of the head-to-heads over recent years, losing just one of the last six to Scotland in international competition. Stephen Kenny’s side will no doubt travel here with plenty of optimism on Saturday.

Ireland Hoping For Greater Success In Nations League

That 3-0 victory for Ireland back in June against Scotland represented Ireland’s only win since the Nations League first started all the way back in 2018. That’s just one win in 14 games for the Irish overall in this competition and they’ll need to better that record significantly if they’re going to achieve promotion any time soon.

There have been positives for the Irish however, keeping the group’s second-best overall defensive record in the competition two years ago and ranking first this time around giving up an average of just 0.75 goals per game to opponents.

Scotland Strong at Hampden

While Scotland will no doubt remember June’s destruction by Ireland vividly, Steve Clarke’s men probably aren’t going to focus on it all that much either as they missed some absolute sitters to open up that game in Dublin and arguably could have been out of sight even before Ireland eventually started to turn it on in that game.

With the group’s best offensive record this campaign, and never having lost in Scotland since the Nations League first began (W6, D1, L0), Scotland will no doubt be primed for revenge in this one as they push for Nations League A promotion.

Scotland vs Ireland Prediction

Scotland is playing the much better football right now, and while Ireland is starting to put results together under Stephen Kenny of late and have had extra time to prepare for this game, the fact remains that Ireland’s only four wins away from home since November 2017 are at Gibraltar, Andorra, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg. Scotland would represent a major scalp for them here on Saturday over in Hampden Park.

While Ireland’s defense has remained on-point over this campaign allowing the fewest goals and second-fewest shots allowed in the group so far, their offense remains stagnant, scoring just one goal across each of their previous three other matches combined when taking out the Scotland result.

Scotland should get the win here and we like the Scotland to win-to-nil prop (Scotland to win and allow no goals) at a healthy +200 in this one on Saturday in what should be a routine, low-scoring win for the Scottish against their old neighbors at home here on Saturday.
