Spain vs Switzerland Betting Analysis
Two matches remain for these teams with everything on the line in Group 2 of League A. Spain currently leads the group with eight points through four matches, one ahead of Portugal who were the inaugural Nations League winners. Meanwhile, the Swiss side sits bottom on just three points, but only one point behind Czech Republic as they look to stave off relegation to League B.
In now the third edition of this competition, what many managers and players deemed to be just glorified friendlies, the intensity and desire to win has started to pick up. These upcoming final two rounds of competition will prove to be more important than ever for many teams as they will use these as their final preparations for the World Cup beginning in November.
One Step Short for Spain
Spain played great in the Euro 2020 tournament making it all the way to semifinals where they lost to eventual champions, Italy. They got their revenge that fall in the last edition of this competition, beating Italy in the semifinals, only then to lose to France in the finals. While winning this competition would be nice, all would quickly be forgiven if they were to pull off a World Cup win.
Spain plays a heavy-possession style game and is patient with their attack. They use that strategy to tire out their opponents to eventually break them down which often leads to lower scoring matches. Their defense doesn’t tire out as it seems they never have less than 60% possession and usually don’t face a ton of chances.
In four matches thus far, they have allowed just three goals and have never faced more than two shots on target including their 1-0 reverse fixture win in Switzerland. It’s hard to see the Swiss doing any better this time around.
No Chance for Switzerland?
I won’t go as far as saying that, but this is certainly a tall task. If they fail to get a result in this match, they will need to beat Czech Republic on the final match day to avoid relegation.
Switzerland is a strong “next level” team: Not quite on the elite level as a Spain or Germany, but better than most other teams in Europe. When they play the elites, they aren’t strong enough to dictate the match, rather they are good at matching the style of play their opponent wants. That means for this match, expect a Spain possession-controlled game with Switzerland forced to sit back and wait for their opportunity on the counter, which Spain is good at not allowing.
Spain vs Switzerland Betting Prediction
This will be a one-sided match, but the Swiss will do well in limiting Spain’s chances as shown by the reverse fixture meeting in which Spain won 1-0. These teams have a busy recent history having played four times over the last two years. All four meetings finished under the total, including a knockout round meeting in the Euros last summer and two Nations League matches in the previous edition of this competition in the fall of 2020. Expect that trend to continue and take the Under 2.5 Goals (-115).
