Twente vs Fiorentina Analysis

Nicolas Gonzalez opened the scoring for the home side after just eight minutes in last week’s opener with Arthur Cabral following up just 28 minutes later as the Italians extended their lead to 2-0 before the half.

Vaclav Cerny managed to grab a goal back for the away side midway through the second half to give Twente a lifeline, and the Dutch side will no doubt feel confident of overturning that first-leg disadvantage at home here in De Grolsch Veste where they’ve won six of their last seven games outright in this venue.

This represents only the second ever meeting between the two sides in European competition after last week’s debut clash.

Fiorentina Rue Missed Chances

While the Italian side hold the edge ahead of Thursday’s second game over in Holland, Vincenzo Italiano’s team will nevertheless feel this tie should already be wrapped up after dominating much of the action in that first leg.

Fiorentina owned a 13-4 advantage in shots over the Dutch side in that one, but even more than the chances Fiorentina missed was the fact Twente scored on what was their only shot on target of the entire game. Fiorentina will no doubt be hoping that defensive lapse doesn’t cost them here.

Twente Looking To Take Advantage of ‘I Viola’s’ Poor Road Form

While the Italian side has been rock solid at home of late, their recent road form leaves a lot to be desired, and Ron Jans’ side will be looking to take full advantage of that here.

Fiorentina has just one win on the road going all the back to February, which includes a current winless streak of six-straight games, five of which were outright defeats, so they’ll be anything but confident ahead of traveling to Enschede here on Thursday.

FC Twente vs Fiorentina Prediction

FC Twente is going off on the +0.25 handicap line at around -140 here, and that’s the way we’re looking to play this one on Thursday as we don’t envision the Dutch side losing, especially at home.

While Twente was no-doubt outclassed over in Italy last week, they nevertheless showed how resilient they were by hanging around and grabbing an important goal midway through the second half to get back in the tie.

In front of 30,000 passionate fans inside De Grolsch Veste on Thursday, expect Twente’s performance to be raised much higher as they try and end an eight-year absence away from European football.

With Fiorentina’s poor road form added into the equation as well, we’re taking FC Twente +0.25 (-140) to avoid defeat here at home and grab a positive result against Fiorentina over in the Netherlands.
