West Ham vs Sevilla Analysis
Sevilla comes into this game after dropping points against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend while West Ham come in off a solid home win against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Sevilla’s Historic Success
Six-time Europa League champions Sevilla will be feeling incredibly confident heading into London on Thursday night safe in the knowledge that they’ve moved on and progressed in their last 18 European ties where they’ve held the advantage from the first leg.
A watertight defense is what will be standing in West Ham’s way of attempting to break that record here on Thursday as ‘Los Rojiblancos’ have allowed just 0.68 goals per game this season on defense, the best defensive record out of any team in LaLiga this year.
European Heartache for the Hammers
It’s been over 40 years since the ‘Hammers’ last reached the quarter-finals of a major European tournament, and being only a goal down here returning home to a packed Olympic Stadium easily presents the best chance in decades that they’ll have to make that dream a reality once again.
West Ham were on a run of three straight losses heading into Sunday’s game against Aston Villa, including that 1-0 loss to Sevilla back in midweek, but may be finding form at just the right time here with players returning back and a comprehensive win over the ‘Villains’ at the weekend.
West Ham vs Sevilla Prediction
We think this will be an incredibly close, competitive game over in London on Thursday night.
West Ham has been the Premier League’s fourth-best home team this year and have lost just four times all season at the Olympic Stadium so David Moyes will no doubt fancy his side to turn things around here and potentially push this one into extra-time on Thursday.
However, facing the Hammers are the most successful team in Europa League history and Sevilla have shown time and time again how adept they are at moving on from these grind it out type of encounters in the past.
West Ham may be capable of getting on the scoresheet early here, a concern if Michail Antonio is officially ruled out of this game, but if they do, it’s likely Sevilla will peg them back at some stage and the game ends in a stalemate with Sevilla moving on to progress.
The 1-1 correct score at +550 looks like decent value here, along with the West Ham/Draw HT/FT prop at +1400 as well (West Ham to be leading at half-time and the draw at full-time), and that’s the way we’re going to play this one on Thursday.
