Argentina vs Poland Betting Analysis
Prior to the start of the tournament, not many people pegged this as a do-or-die match for Argentina. While it is possible they could lose this match and still qualify, it’s very unlikely and the only way to guarantee anything is to secure the three points against Poland.
Let’s be honest, if you were high on Argentina before the tournament began, your outlook on them shouldn’t change after their once-in-a-generation loss to Saudi Arabia. Argentina dominated the match, as expected, with nearly 70-percent possession while limiting Saudi Arabia to just three shots which they scored two goals on. Argentina generated 2.26 expected goals in that contest, compared to Saudi Arabia’s 0.15 tally.
Argentina rebounded in Match Day 2 against a much tougher Mexico side, although admittedly, it wasn’t easy, and that result could have easily ended in a draw. Argentina only generated five shots in that game, and Mexico laid the blueprint for how Poland should play them in this contest. Mexico allowed Argentina to have possession but pressed them in their own side of the field and it was difficult for Argentina to find space and move the ball out of their defensive half.
Unimpressive in Victory
Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 in Match Day 2, but that’s a pretty flattering scoreline for the Poles. Saudi Arabia generated a whopping 16 shots (remember, Argentina only allowed three in the prior match) and 64-percent possession to Saudi Arabia. That doesn’t give me much confidence that Poland will be able to contain Messi and Argentina.
Argentina vs Poland Prediction
I like Argentina to win this match, but I’m not sure that the South Americans will be able to create much margin. Poland can still advance to the next round, even in defeat, as long as they keep their goal differential at a respectable level.
Poland will look to take the air out of the ball as much as possible, and I don’t see Argentina allowing many chances to Poland. So the combo play of Argentina and under 3.5 goals (-120) looks like a great option. If you are feeling extra frisky, look at Argentina and under 2.5 goals (+200) as a fun prop bet.
