World Cup Group D Predictions, Best Betting Pick & Top Odds

world cup group d predictions

With two pretty clear-cut favorites, World Cup Group D Predictions are going to keep eye on Denmark and France and their chances of advancing from the group.

Group D contains 2018 World Cup winners France as they take on last year’s Euro semifinalists Denmark, with Australia and Tunisia making up the other two teams in a group that arguably looks pretty straightforward, at least on paper from the outset, as to who will qualify from this one.

However, we’ve seen major surprises before in the World Cup group stages, most notably with the infamous ‘Curse of Champions’, but at odds of -250, France is the book’s clear favorite to come out on top of this group, with Denmark coming in at a distant second at +275.

Australia and Tunisia make up the outsider spots at +1400 and +1600 respectively to top Group D.

France World Cup Preview

On paper at least, France should have little difficulty in claiming top spot in this group as Didier Deschamp’s team boasts an incredibly deep roster right across the park, with some of the greatest stars in world football available at their disposal like PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano to call upon along with many, many others.

However, any World Cup Group D predictions have to keep in mind that the ‘Curse of Champions’ is anything but a fairy tale, especially for European teams, as every previous winner of the World Cup since 2006 has failed to get out of the group stage in the following tournament.

Italy won the competition back in 2006, then finished bottom of the group in 2010. Spain won it in 2010, then crashed out in the group stage in 2014.

Germany won the World Cup in 2014, then finished bottom of the group in 2018, and it could well be primed for a return in 2022 also.

This particular phenomenon is something France are all too familiar with as well, winning the World Cup back in 1998 and then finishing bottom of the group just four years later. It doesn’t really alter our World Cup Group D predictions as France might just be too strong.

Denmark World Cup Preview

Denmark presents probably the greatest threat to France in finishing top of this group as they’ve been in some fantastic form over the last couple of years in international tournaments.

The Danes ran France close back in 2018’s World Cup, finishing second in the group overall and drawing against them in the final match day of the group stage. Denmark was the last team to get a result against France in that tournament before the French went on a major run to win the competition.

In last summer’s Euro tournament, Denmark again rallied from a horrific Christian Eriksen incident to go all the way to the semifinals of that competition before bowing out in extra time against England, with France crashing out to Switzerland in the Round of 16 in what was an unexpected early exit for one of the pre-tournament favorites.

And yet again, in the most recent Nations League competition, Denmark edged out France in the group, beating them twice overall, most recently 2-0 in Copenhagen back in September.

So the Danes definitely won’t be intimidated by their larger rivals ahead of this tournament

Australia World Cup Preview

In what’s become a fairly routine part of the calendar for Australia over the last couple of decades with the ‘Socceroos’ qualifying for every World Cup since 2006, they made unexpectedly hard work of their spot for this year’s finals.

Australia finished third in its qualifying group behind both Saudi Arabia and Japan to get pushed into a playoff qualifier route.

A four-game winless run on the road to finish off that group qualification will hardly inspire a ton of confidence for Australia ahead of this one, especially being unable to overcome either China or Oman away from home.

Yet, Australia was nevertheless able to recover and navigate their way through the rest of the playoffs, with an 84th-minute winner needed against the UAE, and then a penalty win over Peru as well to secure their spot at this year’s finals.

With top players such as FC Copenhagen’s Mat Ryan and Celtic’s Aaron Mooy, it really looks like an uphill battle for Australia to qualify from this group.

Tunisia World Cup Preview

Less than a year ago it looked like Tunisia reaching a World Cup finals was nothing but a dream after they finished third in their African Cup of Nations group behind both Mali and Gambia, and then got summarily knocked out of that same competition by Burkina Faso in the quarterfinals.

However, a change at the top from former manager Mondher Kebaier to former assistant coach Jalel Kadri has reinvigorated the national squad as they’ve since registered revenge wins over Mali in World Cup qualification, as well as running undefeated in every competitive game since March, with their only loss since then coming against Brazil in a friendly back in September.

Kadri can call upon both experienced campaigners such as defender Ali Maaloul ahead of this tournament, as well as young dynamos like Manchester United’s 19-year-old Hannibal Mejbri.

Tunisia could well represent a major threat if there is going to be a dark horse from this group.

World Cup Group D Predictions

It’s hard to look past the top two teams of France and Denmark to finish first and second respectively in this group, but at odds of just even money, there are likely better bets to be made from a purely value standpoint.

If anyone can spring a surprise in this group, it’s very likely going to come from Denmark as under head coach Kasper Hjulmand, this Danish side are playing extremely well right now and have already beaten France twice this calendar year, so at odds of +275 to finish top, the Danes might offer the best outright value to top the group.

With the potential ‘Curse of Champions’ still in full effect as well, an outsider play possibly worth a small look might be the Denmark/Tunisia straight forecast at 40/1, as if the curse does somehow strike France this time around, Tunisia look best poised to capitalize out of the bottom two teams.

World Cup Group D Predictions : The Betting Pick is the Safest Two to Advance From The Group – France & Denmark

Overall, however, just based on talent levels alone, it looks very difficult to see anything other than a France/Denmark one/two at even money in this group for this year’s tournament in Qatar. That’s the safe money and the best of the World Cup Group D Predictions.
