world cup group f predictions

One of the tightest groups to call overall and to make top World Cup Group F predictions, Group F has spoiler material written all over it with European powerhouses Belgium and Croatia, still packed with star power yet arguably on the decline, facing the youth and inexperience of Morocco and Canada, two teams packed with enough attacking talent to worry anybody in the group.

World Cup Group F Predictions: Belgium the Favorite in Odds and On Paper

Belgium enters as the -200 favorite to win this group with Croatia in second at +275. Both Morocco and Canada are the books’ outsiders in Group F, priced at 10/1 and 12/1 respectively. They may present some value for those looking for a dark horse in the winners’ market. Especially Canada – they figure prominently as a spoiler in our World Cup Group F Predictions.

Belgium World Cup Preview

The ‘Golden Generation’ is dimming for Belgium and this year’s World Cup may well represent their last chance at having something to show for all their talent.

The average age of stars Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Jan Vertonghen, and Toby Alderweireld is now 32 and they’ll know it could well be last chance saloon for them here to finally lift a coveted World Cup trophy.

On a positive note, though, Belgium may just have exactly the right mix of experience and youth to win this tournament, with EPL players such as Leandro Trossard and Youri Tielemans clocking in at their mid-20s. So the ‘Red Devils’ definitely shouldn’t be underestimated in terms of winning this competition outright.

Overall, Belgium has an assortment of riches at their disposal roster-wise, and despite an aging backline, should have enough about them to comfortably finish top of this group.

Croatia World Cup Preview

Croatia enjoyed a fantastic run all the way to the World Cup final back in 2018, eventually losing out to France in the decider. So the Croatians will no doubt attract some money for this tournament as a result.

However, that run back in 2018 was on the clearly easier side of the draw, with Portugal, France, Argentina, Brazil, and Belgium all being paired on the opposite side. And even then, Croatia had to overcome two penalty shootouts against Denmark and Russia before an extra-time winner against England put them in the final.

Luka Modric was the player instrumental to that amazing run, but the Real Madrid midfield engine is now 37 years of age. While still an incredibly gifted player, Modric has arguably seen his best playing days fall behind him. As a result, it’s questionable exactly how far Croatia can go in this tournament.

Morocco World Cup Preview

Morocco received a huge boost last month with Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech deciding to return to the national squad, joining the likes of PSG’s right-back Achraf Hakimi and Sevilla’s striker Youssef En-Nesyri as well. The Moroccans have the individual talent level to create some serious problems for the other teams in this group.

Morocco absolutely breezed through their recent African qualification run, winning all six games in the second round and out-scoring their opponents by a combined 20-1 margin before blowing out Congo 4-1 in the final stage as well.

While the level of competition will obviously be a far greater step up for them come November, with an extra-time loss against Egypt in the African Cup of Nations being their only loss outside of friendlies in almost three years, Morocco is coming into this tournament in some red-hot form.

Canada World Cup Preview

The new kids on the block have qualified for their first World Cup finals since 1986, and they’ll no doubt be determined to make the most of their chance.

Canada topped their recent CONCACAF qualification group, finishing ahead of both the USA and Mexico. Club Brugge forward Cyle Larin and Lille frontman Jonathan David finished the qualification stage with a combined 11 goals, ranking first and joint-second respectively in overall offensive scoring.

However, it was arguably Canada’s defense that was most impressive, allowing just seven total goals (0.5 per game) to opponents over the entire course of qualification.

Boasting a tight defense and an offense that employs explosive pace in attack with the likes of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies coming through from the back, Canada might well be the dark horse to emerge from this group.

World Cup Group F Predictions : Who’s Advancing?

While CONCACAF qualification isn’t the worst gauntlet to run in terms of reaching a World Cup, the fact that Canada topped it with such relative ease (enjoyed a 4-point cushion at the top of the table after Match Day 11 and had a goal differential of +16 while second-place Mexico’s was just +9), the fact that Canada is going off at these kinds of odds does suggest some level of disrespect for them in the market.

Despite that, Belgium should nevertheless provide too much of a test for Canada to finish top, along with every other team in this group. We expect the Red Devils to finish in first place in this one.

Second place, however, really is up for grabs and big group favorites often have a habit of coming out of the blocks slow in these types of tournaments, with France needing a late own-goal to get past Australia back in 2018 and Argentina drawing against Iceland also. If Canada, who plays Belgium first in Group F, can navigate an early positive result from that game, then they really control their own destiny facing an aging Croatian side and a relatively inexperienced Moroccan side down the line also.

World Cup Group F Predictions : The Betting Pick for Two to Advance

This is arguably the most open group out of any in the World Cup, but at healthy odds of +700, we’re going with Belgium/Canada to finish first and second respectively in the straight forecast prop for this year’s tournament.
