World Cup Group G Predictions, Best Odds, Free Pick on Two To Advance

Croatia vs Brazil Prediction

Group G sees the world’s No. 1 team Brazil go in as heavy favorites to finish up top as they take on two of three teams they faced previously in the 2018 World Cup in Serbia and Switzerland. Cameroon will round out the group, which contains plenty of intriguing storylines.

Brazil enters as the -225 favorites to top Group G with Switzerland in second place at +450, Serbia in third at +550 and Cameroon being priced up as the group outsiders at odds of +1100 to finish in top spot.

World Cup Group G Predictions: Brazil World Cup Preview

Five-time World Cup champions Brazil enters into this year’s tournament in some fine form, winning seven games on the bounce and out-scoring opponents 26-2 during this run.

Even more impressive is the fact the ‘Selecao’ didn’t even drop a game during qualification, going unbeaten across 17-straight games and putting up a remarkable +35 goal differential in the process. Second-placed Argentina managed just a +19 goal differential over their qualification run, so it goes to show exactly how dominant Brazil was during qualifying.

With explosive talent from front-to-back including two of the best goalkeepers on the planet in Liverpool’s Alisson and Manchester City’s Ederson, defenders such as Real Madrid’s Eder Militao and PSG’s Marquinhos as well, plus electric forwards like PSG’s Neymar and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior among a host of other attacking talent at their disposal, Brazil’s roster is without question one of the deepest in the world.

If there is one slight criticism, however, it’s that their midfield isn’t quite as strong as some of the other nations in this competition, and that might well become a factor as we reach the penultimate stages of this competition. However, in terms of this group, the Brazilians should finish top by a fairly comfortable margin.

World Cup Group G Predictions: Switzerland World Cup Preview

In a surprise twist in qualifying, Switzerland was able to top the group and blitz forward to unexpectedly unseat the reigning European champions, Italy, in Group C with zero losses from their eight games overall and the Swiss should present a real challenge to the other teams in this group.

Switzerland has a solid track record in major international tournaments going back decades, most recently knocking out France in last summer’s Euro tournament in the Round of 16 stage, and emerging from Brazil’s group in the World Cup four years ago. The Swiss earned a draw against Brazil in that one before eventually bowing out at the Round of 16 stage against Sweden.

With players such as Newcastle’s Fabian Schar, Chelsea’s Denis Zakaria, and Monaco’s Breel Embolo, Switzerland could cause problems yet again in this tournament and it’s no surprise to see the books install the ‘Rossocrociati’ as the second favorites to top this group.

World Cup Predictions: Group G – Serbia World Cup Preview

Serbia topped its qualifying group by finishing ahead of Portugal on the final match day to secure top spot and forcing Portugal through the playoff route to get to this year’s finals.

Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic led the charge in qualifying, scoring eight goals to rank as Group A’s overall top scorer. The Serbian frontman has been in equally good form in the English Premier League this season as well, scoring six goals over his opening eight games.

However, the center-forward did pick up some ligament damage in his foot recently with reports suggesting he should be good-to-go by the time the World Cup rolls around, and Serbia will no doubt be hoping those reports are accurate.

Dusan Vlahovic is another striker in top form this season, ranking joint-second in the Serie A scoring charts with Juventus, and the 22-year-old 82 million Euro transfer has proven himself at the national level also, scoring eight times in 16 appearances for his country.

World Cup Group G Predictions: Cameroon World Cup Preview

Group outsiders, Cameroon, are entering their first World Cup since 2014 after missing out last time in Russia, but with a record of just four wins from 23 matches played in the World Cup over their history, the ‘Indomitable Lions’ will be hoping for more success this time around.

Two former Cameroonian legends are leading the charge for the African nation in Samuel Eto’o and Rigobert Song as Chief of the FA and head coach of the national team respectively, and with recent semifinal runs in the Africa Cup of Nations along with a playoff qualification victory over Algeria also, Cameroon will no doubt fancy their chances of qualifying out of this group come the start of December.

Inter Milan’s goalkeeper Andre Onana and Napoli’s defensive midfielder Frank Anguissa will no doubt be key contributors to Cameroon’s overall success at this tournament, but with Brazil, Switzerland, and Serbia all boasting deeper overall rosters than Cameroon, it could be an uphill battle for them to qualify from this group.

World Cup Group G Predictions : Brazil First, But Who’s Next?

A crystal ball isn’t needed to see Brazil finishing top of this group overall as any other outcome for the South American nation would be a major disappointment considering the squad they have at their disposal.

However, second spot really is up for grabs in this group and all three nations of Switzerland, Serbia and Cameroon will feel they have a legitimate shot of qualifying here.

Switzerland overcame Serbia in the World Cup group stage last time out in Russia with a late 90th-minute winner from Xherdan Shaqiri. At 31 years of age, however, the attacking right-winger has no doubt lost a step from four years ago and is now plying his trade in the US, while Serbia has arguably gotten even stronger with the passage of time.

With the likes of Dusan Vlahovic to partner Aleksandar Mitrovic up front and Lazio’s central midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic now in his prime also, the ‘Eagles’ will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in this World Cup.

World Cup Group G Predictions : The Betting Pick – Who Advances?

Cameroon, meanwhile, while still capable of a surprise or two, just don’t have the necessary depth to qualify from this group in our opinion, and in a two-horse race between Switzerland and Serbia, we are going with the Serbians to gain some revenge for their 2018 World Cup elimination by putting out the Swiss in the group stage this time around. So, Brazil and Serbia to advance!
