Analysis

3% Minnesota ML (1:00 ET): Betting the Vikings on the money line here in a game the oddsmakers have projected as a virtual “toss-up” in Week 1. As a matter of fact, this line has jumped the fence twice over the course of the summer. Minnesota is now back as a rightful favorite over a Giants team I feel will be the worst in the NFC this season. I’ve read a lot of “online chatter” leading up to this game and I’m seeing many that agree with me about the G-men (that they STINK) penciling this in as one of the few wins on their schedule. I (obviously) have a much different view in that I think these are precisely the kind of matchups an underrated Vikings squad are likely to capture en route to a season that will be more respectable than what many are projecting.

Yes, the Giants have a very good front four on defense, one of the best in the league in fact. However, can’t say many positive things about the other 18 starters on both sides of the ball, other than rookie WR Malik Nabers should be one to watch. But look at who is charged with getting Nabers the ball - Daniel Jones. While HC Brian Daboll (who I respect a lot) was able to guide a Jones-led team to the playoffs two years ago, that was mostly smoke and mirrors. This Giants’ offense is now going to be a lot worse with Saquon Barkley off to division rival Philadelphia. Last season, the Giants averaged just 15.6 points per game, third fewest in the league.

Meanwhile, I’m not THAT concerned about Minnesota losing rookie QB JJ McCarthy to a season-ending injury. Sam Darnold will be just fine in the interim. I really like Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell, who was able to win games last year with the likes of Josh Dobbs and Nick Mullens at QB. Darnold has an excellent pair of receivers to throw to - Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison - which will help. So will new RB Aaron Jones. On the defensive side of the ball, I’m a huge fan of coordinator Brian Flores and what he brings to the table. Look for his blitzing to embarrass a porous Giants’ O-line and Jones. With a VERY challenging upcoming schedule, there should be a huge onus on winning Week 1 for the Vikings.  3% Minnesota ML (Play to -135)
