Analysis

3% Over Cubs/Dodgers (10:10 ET): One week ago, the Cubs were (perhaps) the hottest team in all of baseball and returning to Wrigley for a six-game homestand. Well, turns out they lost four of those six games and are now five back of the Wild Card after getting themselves in the race. Perhaps the most head-scratching thing about the Cubs’ stumbles at the Friendly Confines, where they dropped two of three to both the Pirates and Yankees, were the offensive struggles. They were held to three runs or fewer five times including three shutout losses. This is a stark contrast to the 8-1 road trip that preceded the homestand - where they scored 89 runs in 9 games (four games w/ 14+ runs!)

Now the Cubs head back out on the road to face the Dodgers, who now have the best record in the National League after taking two of three here (from Cleveland) over the weekend. Know that I won by betting the Under in Sunday’s game, but I’m confident in tonight being a much higher-scoring affair. It’s a much different matchup with the Cubs. who are capable of scoring more than the Guardians and will have Kyle Hendricks on the mound. Hendricks is certainly capable of a “blow up” any given start, but more so on the road where his ERA and WHIP jump to 7.89 and 1.61. His last time starting on the road, Hendricks gave up six runs in just 1 ⅔ IP and that was against the lowly Pirates.

The Dodgers have the third highest scoring lineup in all of baseball (4.99 runs per game). While it’s true they average more AWAY from Chavez Ravine, that’s more than made up by the fact the Cubs’ scoring average jumps by nearly a full run per game away from Wrigley. So we’ve got two lineups more than capable of putting up at least five runs tonight. Starting for Dodger Blue will be Walker Buehler, who has a 7.29 ERA his L5 starts overall. For the season, he has a 5.67 ERA and a 5.98 FIP, both terrible numbers. Buehler and Hendricks are each capable of giving up the home run ball as well. Expect plenty of runs in this one. 3% Over Cubs/Dodgers (Play to 10)
