Analysis

3% Under Nottingham Forest/Liverpool (10:00 AM ET): The Arne Slot era is certainly off to a rousing start at Anfield where Liverpool have picked up the maximum nine points from their first three Premier League matches without conceding a single goal! It’s been complete domination by the Reds with wins over Ipswich Town (2-0), Brentford (2-0) and Manchester United (3-0). But, coming off the International Break, I view this as a bit of a tricky spot for Liverpool, who face the Tricky Trees (otherwise known as Nottingham Forest), who are off to their own strong start in the English top flight with two draws and a win.

That’s not too shabby for a side most pegged to be in a relegation fight this campaign. Now it’s mainly been low-event matches against the likes of Wolves, Southampton and Bournemouth, none of whom are even close to the level of Liverpool. But being fifth in xPts (per Understat) is a really solid start for Forest, who - going back to last season - is on their best ever run under manager Nuno Espirito Santo (four straight matches without a loss). As the odds suggest, I would expect Forest to lose on Saturday, but - again - they won’t make it easy for Liverpool and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this match is a bit of a slog at the start.

None of the six league matches these two sides have been involved in have seen more than three goals scored. In fact, none of Forest’s three matches have seen more than two total goals scored. So this is an easy Under call for me at this number. Keep in mind that many of the key attackers that will be featured in this fixture - Diaz and Salah for Liverpool and Chris Wood for Forest - were busy during the International Break (playing for their home countries). So it’s not as if they’re well-rested after the Break. Also, Liverpool has AC Milan upcoming midweek in the Champions League, so they have reason to “park the bus” in the second half, provided they are ahead. While Liverpool is obviously #1 in xGA (expected goals allowed) in the Premier League, Forest is #3 so far! Four of the last five meetings between these two sides have seen a clean sheet. 3% Under Nottingham Forest/Liverpool (3.5, Play Smaller at 3.25)
