UEFA CL - Liverpool at AC Milan
Game Thoughts: A new season of Champions League and a new format for this tournament as they get away from 4 team groups with home/away games and instead they'll play 8 different teams (4 home 4 away) and the top 8 sides advance to the knockout stages with 16 others being matched up in 2-leg ties to decide the other 8 knockout stage teams. Now with that explained lets get to this game. All is not well in Milan at the moment with new manager Paolo Fonseca and his side has yet to win in 3 Serie A games in Italy with a couple draws and a loss. He has attempted to get Milan to play a style from the back out and it's been constant errors defensively trying to play that style. It's normally something that takes sides a much longer timeframe to master. A Saturday (Sept 14th) fixture at home against Venezia likely won't provide answers on any improvement as that side is bottom of the league and has scored 1 goal in 3 games and unlikely to offer much pressure. Speaking of pressure, Liverpool comes to town on Tuesday and under their new manager Arne Slot they have been nothing but perfect with a 3-0 record to start the Premier League season and a 7-0 goal differential. They are multi-faceted in attack and can bring in substitutes equally as effective including recent signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus. Liverpool are likely to press Milan on Tuesday and if this Italian side are unable to deal with that pressure I'd expect more defensive errors leading to goals. In 3 games this season Milan has allowed 2 goals in each. Liverpool's weekend fixture in the EPL is a home game against Nottingham Forest and at the time of writing this I'd expect them to rest some starters whether it's to start the game or in the 2nd half if/when ahead.
