Appalachian State is a team that’s on everyone’s radar due to pulling off some big upsets over the years. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, they’re running into a terrible spot having to go play Clemson on the road coming off a loss. I have Georgia power rated as the #1 team in the country, and because there are big-time expectations for the Clemson program, there will be a huge level of effort and focus in front of the home crowd Saturday night. The Tigers’ defense is top-notch. Last year they finished tied for the most takeaways in the country and did a great job of keeping opponents out of the red zone. Not only will App State have trouble scoring, but they’ll get gashed on the ground as well. Last year the Mountaineers allowed 4.98 yards per carry and 180 rushing yards per game, and that was to much lower level competition. The fact that Clemson played Georgia is a good thing because they now have the experience of playing against the best. Even better is the fact that they lost, because now things will get ugly as the Tigers are set to prove they’re a legitimate national threat. Take Clemson.
