Quick turnaround for the Mets after playing a double-header for their playoff lives yesterday. Now New York heads to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers in what will surely be a chaotic environment. Milwaukee won the NL Central by 10 games, a division title that has not been in doubt for quite some time. They’ll send Freddy Peralta to the mound for game 1, a pitcher that enters in excellent form. Peralta has allowed a total of 4 runs over his past 3 starts and really emerged as a true “Ace” in 2024. He has a high K rate as well as whiff percentage and does a great job mixing up his off-speed stuff. The only time Peralta faced the Mets this season was at the beginning of the year and he gave up just 1 hit over 6 innings.

The Mets dropped 4 of their last 6 games but were able to slide into the playoffs by the slimmest of margins. After the long day and tough travel spot, New York sends Luis Severino to the hill. Severino gave up 4 earned in as many innings last time out. He pitches to a lot more contact than one might expect, with a K rate that sits below league average. Severino was tagged for 6 runs on 11 hits when he faced Milwaukee to begin the season. We also have to mention the sizeable bullpen advantage that the Brewers have, as they finished 2nd in all of baseball in cumulative team ERA. All of this adds up to a Milwaukee win in Game 1. Take the Brewers.
