Lanus are one of the teams that have shined in the Copa Sudamericana, and they have set their eyes on a deep run in the competition. They won it back in 2012/13 and reached the final again in 2019/20, and they also reached the Copa Libertadores Final in 2016/17. This season their target is clear, having already been eliminated from the Argentinian Cup and not really able to win the domestic title, but they do have a chance to make it to the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana. Really hard to beat at home, currently on a 6-match unbeaten streak (W4 D2) and losing just 1 of L/9 home matches (W6 D2 L1), with that sole loss coming in the final match-day of the Copa Sudamericana group stage, where they had already captured the top spot so it was a meaningless match. 

Independiente Medellin are struggling to get results on the road, even in their domestic league, currently on a 6-match win-less streak (D4 L2) and winning just 4 of 18 away matches in all competitions so far (W4 D7 L8), and most of those wins came against the bottom teams in their league and weak teams in the Copa Sudamericana. They will try to shut this game down in hopes to take a manageable result back home. 

By the same token, Lanus know that it’s going to be a hard second leg in Medellin, so they will try to win this one by multiple goals in order to have a better chance of qualifying to the semi-finals. Lanus will keep on pummeling even if they are 1-0 up, they usually generate a heavy volume of shots, so offense is not a problem.
