Hard to ignore this contest when it just screams points from all angles. Arkansas State HC Butch Jones is what he is (and he is a Brian Kelly disciple) but even with that questionable pedigree he’s got an offense and a QB in Jaylen Raynor that can light up the scoreboard. Raynor was the SunBelt Freshman of the year LY and he’s one of 10 returning offensive starters that had 457 total yards and 34 points last week vs. FCS Top 15 team Central Arkansas. Downside is they allowed 31 points and 7.1 yards per play (61/432). They were gashed on the ground and can be exploited there by Tulsa and in the pass game as well. Tulsa HC Kevin Wilson is no stranger to potent & high point producing offenses and this season could be another. First game out last Saturday saw TU QB Kirk Francis throw for 4 TD’s, the offense score five TD’s from 20+ yards and the special teams account for a 66 yd punt return TD & 100 yd kickoff return TD. 622 total yards and 62 points against overmatched Northwestern State doesn’t win you an FBS Championship but it doe put Tulsa in a spot where they can torch this opponent for 38+. Defense is a question mark and did yield 75 & 76 yd TD drives to NSU. Red Wolves frantic pace (play every 21.7 seconds) enhances number of plays & possessions in contest where scoring should be rampant and land in the 68+ vicinity.
