2% Mississippi State @ Arizona State

Offenses of HC Jeff Lebby & HC Kenny Dillingham…sign me up. Especially after what we saw in game #1 of year #2 out of Dillingham’s Arizona State group. Sure there were a couple of short field aided drives plus a pair of defensive scores but ASU also had 27 first downs and 499 total yards of offense against a perennial hard nosed Wyoming squad. Weaponry now appears to be in sync with Dillingham’s system making them dangerous to opposing defenses. The run/pass balance on display last week (241 ry/258 py) likely to make things difficult for Mississippi State squad in only their second game under new DC Coleman Hutzler. Game #1 vs. FCS Eastern Kentucky didn’t provide the speed and talent level they’ll face here and with the presumed raucous away setting suspect MSU may have a tough time. However, they may cause Arizona State’s defense just as many problems. Ex-Baylor QB Blake Shapen is the new starter for the Bulldogs and he’s a definitive step up in class from the less than competent Wyoming QB play ASU saw last week. Wyoming QB Evan Svoboda presented zero threat in the passing game (6/15/42/0 TD/2 int) which led to the Cowboys immediate downfall. Lebby was able to play a close to the vest type offense last week but his Art Briles “Power Spread” style of “Air Raid” will likely be opened up here. Each side has matchup advantage with their offense so looking for back & forth high scoring game that lands somewhere in the 62+ range.
