Last season’s disappointing follow up to National Championship appearance has TCU & HC Sonny Dykes hungry to restore winning ways. Especially offensively where the Horned Frogs lost altitude LY averaging 7.5 ppg less than the previous season. Early road contest at Stanford saw QB Josh Hoover & co amass 457 ty and 34 points in seven point win. Passing numbers were especially nice with 353 on 28/42 with 2 TD’s and 0 int’s. 1 sack allowed thus far combined with the Central Florida defense having just 1 sack makes for a nice fundamental matchup edge. UCF now employing ex-Arkansas QB K.J. Jefferson has obliterated first two opponents New Hampshire & Sam Houston State by a combined 102-17 racking up 838 ry (419 pg) & 1,193 ty (596.5 pg) in the process. Those rank #1 & #3 in the country. Fact that TCU was somewhat permissive allowing 27 points and pair of 89 & 79 yd TD drives to Stanford side that’s one dimensional with limited rushing attack is concerning. ‘Frogs untested vs. this style of dominant and “home run” ground game which can spark high octane offensive night for Central Florida. Like each sides offensive strengths against their opposing defensive units and each side plays with rapid pace suggesting plenty of scoring opportunities to capitalize on here.
