This doesn't appear to be the caliber of Appalachian State teams we've seen in recent years. They are coming off a 66-20 loss at Clemson last Saturday and allowed the Tigers to rack up 712 yards of total offense. There is nothing to be ashamed of when losing at Clemson. However, there is after witnessing their lack of compete level right from the start of that contest. Clemson jumped out to a 56-13 halftime lead and then coasted the rest of the way while playing primarily backups.

Despite committing 10 turnovers in their first 2 games East Carolina managed to win on each occasion. They knocked off Norfolk State 42-3 in their season opener and then last Saturday won 20-14 at Old Dominion. That's the same Old Dominio team that nearly upset South Carolina on the road in their season opener before losing by 5. The East Carolina defense has allowed just 8.5 points and 200.5 yards per game over their first 2 contests. Despite that plethora of turnovers committed, The Pirates still amassed 972 yards of total offense through 2 games.

Any College Football home team coming off 2 consecutive wins in which they allowed 14 points or fewer on each occasion, and they are facing a non-conference opponent coming off a loss in which it allowed 31 points or more, resulted in those home teams going an incredible 54-3 SU since 2015. The SU betting angle takes on added value since it backs the home underdog in this contest.
