2% Rotation #301: CFB Friday 2% OVER 55.5 in SMU Mustangs vs BYU Cougars @ 7 ET - Both teams off big wins last week versus inferior competition. Though one can not, of course, expect the same production on offense from each team here, the fact is that confidence is up for both teams heading into this one after piling up big points last week. SMU QB Stone hardly even had to play in last week's game but in the week prior (Week 0) he helped lead the Mustangs to a 29-24 win versus Nevada. The Mustangs were favored by about 4 TDs in that game so the fact they had to rally from a double digit deficit entering the 4th quarter is not a good sign about the defense. Note that the Wolf Pack did have 3 scoring drives that averaged 74 yards apiece so don't be surprised when the Cougars move the ball well on the Mustangs in this one - more on that in a moment. As for the Southern Methodist offense, last year Stone threw for over 3,000 yards and had a 28-6 TD-INT ratio. SMU is a double digit favorite here and I expect Stone to have a big game at home here. However, I don't trust this Mustangs defense against a BYU team that saw QB Jake Retzlaff get his confidence rolling by playing plenty in the big win over Southern Illinois last week. Remember Retzlaff did play late last season in the final four games and had to face some tough teams including ranked foes in his last two starts. Don't be surprised if he enjoys success here against an SMU team that did allow more than 30 points twice in their last 5 regular season games last year. A big key here however is this Mustangs offense as they piled up 500 points in their 11 wins last season - an average of 45.5 points scored per victory! Though they pulled out that win at Nevada in week 0, prior to last week's easy win over an FCS program, Stone and the Mustangs certainly were not happy about having scored only 13 points in the first 3 quarters of a game in which they were favored by 4 TDs. They have been preparing ever since then to be MUCH BETTER in this one! Look for the offense to be humming in this one but also look for Retzlaff and Company to do enough for Brigham Young to hang around in this one and the result should be a 38-28 type of battle here. 2% OVER 55.5 in SMU Mustangs
