Analysis

4% Rotation #914: MLB Friday 4% OVER 8.5 in Boston Red Sox vs Chicago White Sox @ 7:10 ET - First off I like the fact the White Sox are off a game in which they scored 8 runs on 15 hits and also hit 3 homers. Chicago is having a horrible season but they will feel confident stepping into the batters box at Fenway Park tonight and facing Nick Pivetta. Secondly, as bad as the White Sox have been, if you look at their last 4 road games they were shutout in one of those but went 2-1 in the other 3 games and scored an average of 5.7 runs per game. They have some hitters with experience against Pivetta and will have a little extra confidence coming off that 8-1 win. Pivetta has allowed 13 hits and walked 4 in 11 innings spanning his last two starts. Also he allowed only 2 earned runs in a home start in late June versus Toronto but in his other 4 home starts dating back to mid-June, Pivetta has allowed 16 earned runs for an average of 4 earned runs per start at Fenway Park in that stretch. The White Sox Davis Martin has a respectable ERA but truly has not pitched all that well and plus averages only 5 innings per start and that exposes a Chicago bullpen that is one of the worst in baseball. Martin had a good road start at Oakland against a bad A's team but in his other 2 road starts he allowed 7 runs (6 earned) in just 8 innings. Also, he is coming off a home start in which he allowed 4 earned runs. The Red Sox have not been scoring well but should fare better now that they return home and face a weak pitching staff. Boston has slumped badly here late in the season but is not dead yet in the Wild Card race - though they need to get red hot. The Red Sox have gone 38-19 this season against teams that do not have a winning record on the season so watch the White Sox bring out the best in this lineup today for Boston at Fenway Park as they start rolling again at the plate. 15 of 19 Red Sox games at Fenway Park since the All-Star break have totaled at least 9 runs. This one will too and we take advantage of the move from opener of 9 down to 8.5 as of early gameday morning! 4% OVER 8.5 in Boston
