Freddy Peralta has remained an analytic darling this season, despite some trading card numbers that don't look great: 8-7 with a 4.00 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He remains in the top-15th percentile of pitchers in average exit velocity, whiff rate and strikeout rate, which suggests that he should be getting better results than an 8-7 record with a 4.00 ERA. However, that has not been the case. Since the All-Star break, Peralta's strikeout rate has taken a notable downturn and his walk rate has risen. There is plenty of hitter vs pitcher familiarity built up on both sides of this matchup. Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado and Willson Contreras have eight combined home runs against Peralta. Milwaukee's current roster is hitting .295 in 95 plate appearances against Miles Mikolas with a .358 weighted on-base average. Both bullpens were pushed to the limit in Wednesday's extra-innings contest as both bullpens threw 118 pitches. The Cardinals had four relievers throw 23+ pitches last night. Brewers closer Devin Williams threw 31 pitches, so he is likely unavailable today. Neither bullpen will be at full-strength this afternoon, and this total is a tick too low in our opinion.
