Analysis

Miami's Valente Bellozo is someone that we have played against a few times this season. Since being called up to the Marlins, he has been MUCH better than anticipated (2-2 with a 3.35 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP). This was someone who was playing Single-A ball last season with no real expectations of reaching the big leagues. We'll tip our cap to him for performing well thus far, but the inaugural trip to Coors Field always provides a tough test. Bellozo's expected ERA (5.04) is over a run-and-a-half higher than his actual ERA (3.35). His expected weighted on-base average (.346) is nearly 30 points higher than his actual weighted on-base average (.319). He hasn't thrown enough innings to officially qualify in the MLB stat logs, but his 47.4-percent hard-hit rate would be among the worst of all pitchers this season. The Marlins' defense is 26th in defensive runs saved and 25th in outs above average. Coors Field is not the place you want to be with an inexperienced pitcher and a bad defense. Colorado's bullpen should be in good shape for this one after Kyle Freeland went deep into last night's game. The Rockies have taken two of the first three games in this series, and this is a comfortable price to lay on a Colorado squad that's played well at home this season.
